I was asked to help with an estate sale (the owner had passed away). Looking at this HP Mark 1 (with after-market grips, I think), I was puzzled to see no serial numbers on either barrel, slide, or frame. Being unsure of how to find it, I even field-stripped the pistol, but found nothing.
I know the owner brought this pistol from the USA when his family moved here. The bill of sale has the serial number mentioned (starts with 76C, so I guess it was manufactured in 1976) - but there are no numbers on the pistol.
I'm wondering if the legal procedure of bringing the firearm into Canada was not followed. Seems like any verifier would have caught this.
I'm planning to call CFP tomorrow to find out more. I do have the owner's PAL number.
Any advise on how to handle this situation would be appreciated.
