Yesterday I took my new Ruger Mk IV to the range for the first time and it shot flawlessly through the 350ish rounds I put through it. It's also far more accurate than I am and seems like a fun challenge. When I got home and took it apart for cleaning and an inspection I found these marks on the bolt face, is this something I should be worried about? I'm rather new to handguns.

Thanks in advance,

BPB

It looks more cosmetic than functional. However it is a NEW firearm , now with voids/ chips in the bolt face. I would contact Ruger and ask their opinion. I'm sure they would be interested in your photo etc.
If you do contact Ruger , keep the forum up to date ...

Upon further inspection I think the bolt release might be peening the bolt face, it's the only thing that impedes on that part of the bolt! I'm thinking the peening occurs on every empty mag...
Could the bolt be improperly hardened??

This isn't looking good

Update: I sent pictures to Ruger in Arizona and spoke to a lady there who told me they had a tech look at it and it's definitely not normal wear so I should send it in.
Canadian service is done by Snap Shots Guns so that's where it'll be heading next. Kinda irritating I have to pay for shipping on the way there too. The tale continues.

Well that sucks. If it makes you feel better I had a problem with my 1022 receiver a few years ago, contacted Ruger then sent it to snapshots. They replaced the receiver and sent it back no questions asked. Good service!

BpB,

Did you ever get a response from Ruger about your pistol?

I hope to get my new Mk4 next week, and wonder if this is a "thing" to look out for?

Thanks,

Stewbud

As of today I have not got my pistol back. Snap Shots apparently didn't order the replacement bolt until the start of September despite saying they were waiting on Ruger for parts several months before. I spoke to Ruger in NH who just told me it was shipped out to them this past Wednesday. If all goes well I may have my pistol in my hands in less than 3 weeks. I am not a happy camper and will be reluctant to purchase any firearm when it is first released let alone another Ruger. My initial shipping cost is being refunded by cheque to me so at least there's that. Still not enough in my opinion to cover so many months of lost shooting time and a constant irritation in the back of my mind.
