Steyr Scout input sought

Well, don't get me wrong. It just makes little sense. Finish is like pennies to the total cost of the rifle. If you have a factory which makes a model of a rifle making worse finish for US market to save a dime at best, but you also have to now make 2 separate processes.

I can see how Steyr could change quality over time, so 1990s guns would be different finish and fit over 2005-ish guns. But making 2 different finishes at the same time and send lower quality to US - the biggest market... I duno, life is stranger than fiction.

I use to like the scout rifle concept but now not so much
My 308 Kimber 18.5" barrel with a 3-9 Leopold scope is under 5.5 lbs all in !
a heavy scout rifle just don't do it for me

Your way of thinking is flawed, look at the sig SG 542 made in Chile, sure it is a licensed sig product, but quality, fit and finish is nothing like a European manufactured original.

(I have held/compared these as well first hand)

Why would the SG 542 example be relevant in this case? Steyr USA does not make rifles in US or Chile for that matter. They are all come from the same factory in Austria. Do they not?

So you believe steyr usa does not make, finish or assemble any components for the rifles they sell? I believe you need to look closer at the rifles we are discussing.

Their usa factory must just be a big ruse according to you?

They say on the website
A wholly owned subsidiary of Steyr Mannlicher, GmbH, Steyr Arms is the U.S. importer, distributor and retailer for Steyr hunting rifles
I see nothing about manufacturing.

On the scout specifically:
http://steyrarms.com/firearms/sporting-rifles/steyr-scout.html
Tech specs:
Manufacturer: Steyr Mannlicher GmbH, Kleinraming, Austria
Importer: Steyr Arms, Inc., Bessemer, AL

Are you saying this is not true and they manufacture or assemble rifles anywhere but in Austria?

read my original post you questioned, that is what I am saying.

Let me know when you have compared rifles like I have first hand (us marked and austrian marked only)

I'm letting you know that irunguns can bring you steyr scout made in austria at $2K CAD and you will have it in a month.

With or without mythical differences.

Can also order through vault, who appear to actually be processing orders quickly.

North Sylva, I waited over two years after order was placed only to find out they lost the product line and never actually made the order for the retailer in the first place

Light, accurate, smooth action, great trigger, i have them set up in both configuration, the regular scope way is best for longer shots, the forward scope setup is best when i hunt brush and small open areas...
These rifle are MOA or better, you will love having one... JP.

This statement is not true, they just imported one for me, along with some steyr accessories that are hard to find here
It is. I waited over two years for parts from them to find out they lost the product line and never actually placed the order. It is now placed with the new importer, Vault. Their name is on the Steyr ads in the new Caliber magazine that just came out as well

"Vault Distribution is proud to announce that it will be representing, and distributing the Steyr/Mannlicher & H&K lines in Canada, visit again for posted updates."

I just imported a scout, a steyr ching sling and the cartridge holder through ns. As a matter of fact, it has been so recent I haven't been able to make it down to get it yet.

It took 3 months from start to finish after no dealer would order the configuration I wanted, or I got ignored (i emailed and called every local dealer and some out of province to try to get what I wanted in caliber and stock - Not one dealer wanted my money enough to entertain my request re: caliber and colour)

Unless you're telling me they don't have my gun and parts, and when i go pick it up sometime next week it'll somehow get lost. I doubt that.

To add, NS still shows here. https://www.steyr-mannlicher.com/en/retailer/

If they lost their distributorship, it would have been really recent, definately not for the last 2 years

EDITED TO ADD: Maybe Vault also picked up the line? It's not indicated anywhere that it's an exclusive distributorship. I will also concede that they could have switched distributorships after my order sometime between now and 3 months ago.

Gentlemen

I thank you all for your input, it has only solidified my resolve. IRG was my go-to solution from the start. The process begins - now to sell off a couple of P7's...

blake

Wise choice. IRG or Prophet River Firearms. Still, both dealers will import your Steyr Mannlicher rifles from the USA.

I know for sure that Prophet River Firearms does not get their Steyr rifles from North Sylva - for the simple reason that I asked them and they wrote me back that the answer to my question was "NO".

I look at them at SHOT Show all the time, but have not noticed any quality difference compare to my own.

The only US made Steyr is the AUG. The receiver is made by Vltor.

We get ours direct from Steyr, USA.

Curiousity got the better of me, and I was looking for more accessories as well

Vault took over steyr in January of this year...

I would have gladly bought from PR (having had great dealings in the past) but they never got back to me in regards to my request!!
