Cutting down a Dewey rod?

The other issue is the handle can be removed, but removing the handle raceway will be hard to do. Most likely the coating will be damaged with the force required to get the raceway off the rod. You would then cut the rod and coating which leaves the coating not sealed to the rod at that point and susceptible to peeling.
I'm with other shorter rod is cheaper then a new case.

That's why the heat shrink tubing, covers the vulnerable part of the coating. No doubt better to get the right length, they're not that expensive, but I wanted a .22 caliber rod and all I could find was an exceptionally long one, too flexible in a short barrel .
