8mm ammo for g43 rifle question

i read SOMEWhERE certain 8mm surplus ammo may be too hot loaded for use in the mauser 98 and or g43 rifles.

so
certain 8mm was loaded hot for use in machine guns .........any member have an idea on what country?



i plan to shoot my ac44 g43 rifle, ( restored by me) it has the shooter kit installed.

my current ammo is yugo early 50s and portuges ww2 dated surplus. ( just came with my rifle )

just worried not to screw things up with bad/ hot loaded ammo.

any help/info most welcomed.

I don't know about your particular rifle but I shoot 1953 dated Russian 8mm ammo from my 1938 vz24 and although it packs a punch, the rifle handles it with no problem at all. Nice round to shoot.
 
I only shoot reloads in my 1944 G43,150 gr bullets,imr4895,minimum load out of the Lyman manual.
Mine has the shooters kit in it as well,new springs and it functions flawless,the spent cases don't even expand,drop them in the
case gauge and it looks like they came out of the resizing die.
 
I plan to shoot PPU in mine. True its expensive, but the amount I shoot its not worth getting into reloading (I will be saving the brass for later).
I'm not messing around with any of the hot surplus. Ill let you know how it performs in a few weeks when it gets here.

I think typically yugo is frowned upon in G/K43. But with a shooters kit installed you should be able to dial it down enough. Romanian should be fine. PPU, the Portuguese stuff is good.
 
The ammo you shouldn't shoot in a semi auto is Patrone 'S' ammo. Fortunately for you it is all next to non-existent now. The only Patrone 'S' style ammo still available in any quantity is the Turkish ammo, which there is less and less of it in existence everyday.
 
i have the smallest opening of the shooters kit installed . the surplus old ammo i have is i believe yugo, with also the portugeses and 10 rounds of dominion brand hunting 8mm , all brass cases all quite old .
 
50's Yugo 8mm has a reputation for inconsistent loads and #### shell casings leading to all sorts of problems. I personally have experienced case neck cracking, ruptured case heads, and blown primers. All of these multiple times. It's OK in a mauser action but I would not want to subject a G43 to any of those failures.

An observation on PPU 8mm Mauser:
-When shooting the PPU 198 gr FMJ 8mm Mauser out of my K98 I notice that the POI was about 6" low at *50* yards.
-When shooting S&B 196 gr FMJ and SPCE 8x57 JS I noticed the POI was 6" high at 50 yards!
-Pretty sure the PPU 8mm Mauser is loaded much lighter than the S&B, however:
-PPU makes both 8mm Mauser & 8x57 JS ammo! I suspect the the PPU 8x57 JS is loaded to about the same as the S&B 8x57 JS, though I haven't actually seen any to do a comparison. I've only been able to find the PPU 8mm Mauser ammo in Canada.
 
I have a bunch of yugo 8mm mauser and when i tried it in a Turkish mauser i had a 30% ftf along with split necks. I was scratching my head on what I was going to do with all of it. I took my k98 out to the range on my next outing and still had some of the same yugo ammo in my range bag so i decided to try it in my k98. It ran very well. No split necks and 100% pewpew. Since then i have used it in my k98 with zero problems.
 
This isn't really a debate on shootable 8mm in bolt actions. He's running it in a G43. Early-mid G43 suffered lots of issues. Not worth running hot or problematic ammo in them. A later one is better but still. They are rare eniugh to run decent ammo in them.

amm0 IS to be used in my G43 it IS AN AC44 DATED RIFLE, REWORKED BY VOPO / EAST GERMAN, HAS THE EXTRA HOLES IN THE PISTON TO BLEED OFF PRESSURE, PLUS HAS NEW SPRING KIT AND NEW SHOOTER KIT USING SMALLEST APPETURE SETTING .

I wouldn't use the ammo in your rifle, not because of it being too high pressure, but rather that they can fail in ways that can damage your rifle (case head and primer failures). A bolt-action can generally handle those, where in a G43 it can cause damage to the rifle... or worse.
