I just had to buy one of these to shoot PR at ORA shoots this coming 2017 Season. Ryan Mcle mentioned that we are gonna have some personal challenges and I'm quite excited to shoot with his tweaked C of F :dancingbanana:

Now these rifles come factory Cerakote'd (black) and threaded 22" barrels with the usual 5/8 x 24 tpi setup. I installed a Primary M72 -M2 or something like that brake on there... This rifle set me back $1260 or something like that from Ellwood Epps, plus the taxes and I'll let you calculate the rest. Remember that the factory stock is BLACK, it's all BLACK, but I had to upgrade to FDE because ..... we CAN!

Here it is right next to my PR trainer, a CZ455 Varmint in Boyd's Tacticool laminated-then painted stock:

And here it is by itself:

This Magpul rifle edition is dressed in a FDE Magpul stock bought from CTCS (board sponsor) and I put up the factory black stock for sale. And right now, it's nesting in my Blackhawk Stalker drag bag...

And a closer look... this rifle from Ellwood Epps (thanks  ) comes with the Magpul Magazine option and 5 round AICS compatible magazine:

Gotta love the factory bolt handle upgrade, right outta the box:

Here's a closer look at the AICS magazine bottom resin/metal/setup and I'm a lover of the ARMS22 Throw Lever Rings on any Picatinny rail (Thanks Wolverine...) . The magazine is an MDT Polymer unit for $39.99 right from their website. Thanks MDT Tac dot com and Lazlo!

And here's the other side:

This Magpul stock boasts their MLok system and I had to play with some MLok screws and T-nuts that I found on Amazon dot CA. So I dug up some polymer and aluminum Magpul MOE rail sections and then MLok'ed them into place:

The left/portside of the rifle:

Rail section fun.... with White Crayon (raid you kids' crayon buckets... white stubs at the bottom... always) on the factory engraving

And here is a shot of the rail I installed and the Magpul QD adapter... Thanks Ellwood Epps fellas!

And a closer look at the Magpul Hunter AICS Magazine adapter kit (comes separate from the stock) ... (comes WITH the factory Remmy M700 Magpul Edition in .260 & .308. For more information on the stock head to CTCS website (board sponsor here). I've been super happy with this Magpul product. It's another offering for the newbie who wants to rid themselves of the factory SPS Tac Hogue Rubber coated stock whenever the new shooters can afford to upgrade. Like the chassis systems (Canadian: Cadex and MDT), new shooters have options for upgrading!

Close up of the Factory Bolt handle upgrade... Oh yeah, this rifle if Remmy Factory CeraKote'd.....

I've taken this rifle out to the range, late in the afternoon and had to rush my groups. I put down a few 108 gr Lapua Scenar boolits (thanks Hirsch Precision and Epps) handloaded with 39.0 grains of WC735 (thanks Higginson Powders). I was able to get all the 5 round booolits into an inch and that's showing lots of potential down the road...

Most pleased with this rifle for future competition, right alongside my .308 Ruger PR Edition Enhanced that I bought from Wolverine Supplies back in 2016.

Cheers and warm regards,

Barney

So Barney, how would you compare the Magpul to the Boyd's Pro Varmint?
Does the Magpul need to be bedded?

It looks like the piece on the grip could be removed? Perhaps to add more of a palm swell?

edit:
Compatible with Remington 700 Short Actions, this stock requires no bedding and is a true “drop-in” solution for the end user*.

So, no bedding required, but only fit Remington...not Savage etc

How much you want for it ? Lol

ha ha ha ha Go buy your own...Hey, Epps might have one other...They have TWO .308 renditions available right now (Easter Sunday 2017...)

And do they need bedding? Well, the Magpul folks don't seem to recommend bedding but I want to shoot this baby as much as I can without bedding to see what is up with the aluminum bedding block.... remember that this aluminum bedding block technology has been around since the nineties (HS Precision, Bell & Carlson) so it's not like a new and immature technology.

Part of me says to try a "skim" bed job on the recoil lug and rear tang with some JB Kwik (Princess Auto and Ukrainian Tire) for $8.99 or thereabouts.

Cheers and thanks for the discussion!

I'm getting groups just under an inch and I need to wring this out some more with the 108 grain Scenars. It's a work in progress. And I still have to group the 139 grain Scenars soon.

Stay tuned....

Cheers,
Barney
