New Kimber Hunter in 30-06

Now that is interesting. I never thought to try that. Looking at the magazine (only pictures left), it would seem that the only way to get more room would be to make sure you started the first one down on the right side?

Yes. And for some reason when putting in the second round it will kick the bottom round left if you aren't watching.

Your observations on the magazine is interesting. I had the same problem with the tight fit. Then realized the stagger was going the wrong way. Once I consciously corrected that when loading the dbm it had plenty of room.

Same ultra-tight issue with my .308. No problems with 2 rounds but fought the third round no matter how the load was staggered. I could compress the load just a mm when pushing down from the top through the ejection port. Hoping to get a replacement mag I contacted Kimber USA who directed me to Korth then to dealers etc etc. Impatient as always I opted for a bubba solution. Took the mag apart and removed about 1/16" of the floorplate where it contacts the spring for some wiggle room. Problem solved and it cycles flawlessly.
Overall I am very happy with my rig and it's a shooter.
