Dirty little S.O.B.

If to do this they tend to spit stuff out infecting you with Lyme disease if they have it. It works but it's not the best way. Also the Lyme disease test in Canada is only about 50% effective for humans if you test the tick it is much more effective. Not to scare anyone but it is worth checking the tick if you have it. Many doctors in western Canada won't even believe or admit Lyme diseases in the area.

Proof of that statement is required in order for me to believe it.
Common sense says they would excrete when not releasing voluntarily imo...not when letting go, to go for air.

A quick Google search came up with this to back what experience has taught me. I have seen buddies with huge bullseyes after DR. removed ticks. I have never had so much as a red mark using the sunscreen method.

If you discover that your child or pet has a tick that has lodged itself into the skin, here is the safest, easiest and quickest way to remove it.

This valuable information was discovered and shared by a School Nurse who has dealt with this type of situation many times before.

Whatever you do, don’t try to remove the tick with your fingers or a pair of tweezers. Frequently the tick’s head will be left in the skin this way and this scenario leaves the skin vulnerable to infection.

Also, if the tick has a white spot on it’s back it is a Deer Tick, so after you have removed the tick, place it in a bag and go visit the doctor for examination of the tick and yourself. Deer Ticks can sometimes carry Tick Fever!
How to Remove a Tick Safely and Quickly

Soak a cotton ball in some liquid soap. Swab the tick with the soapy cotton ball several times and then hold it lightly on top of the tick so that it is touching. Within 15 seconds or so, the tick will dislodge itself and come away from the skin stuck to the cotton ball.

Voila!

Easy and not at all traumatic even for a very young patient!

This method works particularly well when ticks become lodged in hard to reach areas like between toes or in someone’s hair.

The School Nurse sharing this information (I wish I knew her actual name to give her full credit) has never had this method fail in the many times she has used it!

We get them bad at hunt camp...... a good blob of Vaseline over top of them makes them back out quick... just be careful where you store the Vaseline (two weeks deer hunting in a remote camp is a long time for some guys)....

For prevention, nothing beats permethrin..... spray all your hunting clothes down and let it soak in a couple of weeks before the season.

Use these on my dog.

Removed countless ones. Easy. Gets the whole tick everytime.

Best thing ever.

Costs a few cents,

LOL, is that what you told the boys in hunt camp when they found your stash? Did you also tell them you brought the "Playboy" magazine for the articles?

What happens at hunt camp stays at hunt camp.....

I am actually really insulted by your accusations.......

I am much smarter than to leave my stash where it could be found......

I went to check some trail cams at my dads place. I usually have my clothing treatment with permethrin but these particular cams where right off a main trail and I pretty much stayed on the 4wheeler the whole time so I figured there was no real danger. I thought wrong lol.

Thanks for being a good sport lol... Not to derail, but I just acquired some permethrin and was wondering is applying a week prior to wearing ok? And does excessive Vaseline reduce it's effectiveness?

No comment on the Vaseline.... :)

As far as the permethrin, it stinks when applied, but the smell dissipates quickly while the effectiveness remains... obviously it only needs applied to outer layers, so what I do is apply it, and leave my clothes outside on the clothesline or draped over deck railings (bringing them in between rains).....

As a dogger at camp, I have never had a single tick in over 5 years, while the others have all dealt with them..... and I have used the same clothes sitting watch without being sniffed out....

Does it affect the skin if the treated clothes come in contact?

Do you remember being told to burn a tick or cover it with
nail polish, lighter fluid or petroleum jelly to remove it?

Well, the old methods often cause the tick to vomit the contents of its gut into the bite. According to research, all of the improper tick removal can increase your chance of contracting Lyme disease. Quote from the first page

Also that bulleye ring is one of the signs of Lyme disease but does not occur in all cases of Lyme disease.

Pulled this well fed tic off the crack of my butt after he had feasted for a week. I picked him up walking my dog in the Rouge Valley/ Dec2015 in east Toronto.

Submitted him to Toronto Health Dept for testing if he carried lime. Toronto just has to be different than the rest of the province, who would have sent this sucker directly to Winnipeg for testing. Toronto sends them to another lab first, to determine if they are black legged tics first.

Few weeks later I got a call from Toronto Health saying there is a problem, my tic was lost!

Thanks for nothing!

Tics.... Damn burrowing buggers

Was out in the bush last week collecting maple sap and found a tic dug into my lower belly. Then yesterday after cutting new trails at the hunt camp, found one dug into my upper leg. Tried the trick using a Q tip dipped in hot water circling the tic but it wouldn't come out. Eventually used tweezers and broke it in two. Damn.... Then had to dig out the remainder with a sharp pin.

The Q tip hot water trick usually works on the larger tics but these were smaller and also too small for the Tic Key device to pull them out. We've only had tics here in Eastern Ontario for about 4 or 5 years now and there's lots here now.

Definitely looking for a better way to remove them.

Lee Valley sells a thing called "The Tick key". Cats ass.
