I'm debating selling off my savage 24 series p. Ihavent made up my mind yet, and I love the gun just don't use it enough anymore. Was hoping for a ballpark idea on value. It's 22/20 ga 2/34" or 3". Gun I would say is in better than good condition. Bores are perfect and actually shoot pretty close to poi between rifle and shotgun (with slugs about 1" lower than 22 at 25yds). Scope is a Burris fullfield 2.5x20 mm. Very nice handmade leather 20 ga shellholder and sling barrel band. Weaver to dovetail mount and quad lock rings holds up to 20 ga recoil perfectly. About $200 of assorted 20 ga ammo sitting here as well.Like I said I'm still on the fence on whether to keep or go.

There was/is one in the EE right now for $750.
Another one back a bit for a g-note.

Not sure where the selling price point is on these, but they seem to be rising
faster than a Bateman.

These things have been selling for strong prices.
I suspect your might bring as much as $700 - $800, given that it wears a decent scope.
You are placing a lot of confidence in that little mounting base affixed to the .22 barrel, if you are shooting the shotgun barrel.

I was Leary on it in the beginning as well but I've fired likely 100 rounds from target loads, prarie storm, slugs and buckshot and it's never moved

I don't know how that little saddle is fastened to that small diameter barrel. Spot welded? Brazed? Bonded?
I've never seen one separated. Savage's instructions are not to fire the shotgun barrel with a scope mounted, but I don't know their reason. Maybe they were worried about someone installing a cheap short eye relief .22 scope, and getting hit in the eye during recoil.

The whole problem with them is the contour of the 22 barrel. It's hard getting a mount to sit down far enough to bite into the dovetail. I used a half round file to groove it out so it sits a little further down and really bites into the dovetail. Never used anything to adhere it. I will admit the first 10 shots or so we're from the the hip cause I was a little worried about it letting go but it's never moved a mm.

My concern is the base separating from the barrel, not the scope moving on the base.

Yeah that's what I was worried about as well but she's solid. I seen on another sight for savage 24s alot of guys using them and saying how well they held up providing you do a bit of filing to make to it so the teeth or whatever they're called sit little lower and bite in better. If not they just barely bite into the grooves and will let go. Thanks for the replies guys. I was thinking around the $800 mark as well but wasn't sure.

I dont know why Savage doesn't continue to make these rifles as there seems to be a demand fo them on the used market. Their current similar offering is one of the ugliest guns out there which might be the reason for the demand for the used ones.

I would think that the 30-30/20ga and 223/20ga would be the best two sellers if they could improve the appearance.

At the end of the day, IMHO the market for this type of firearm is relatively thin: it is a niche gun only. My understanding is that Savage stopped making them because their costs were rising and the profits falling. The Savage 24F was the last gasp before death of the genre. (I never cares for the 24F btw). Yes prices are now rising due to scarcity, but the average Canadian that's into guns is not a "one gun" guy: most prefer a repeating rifle or shotgun over a combo. I'm sure cost for a new 24v would be well over 1000. They'd sell a hundred axis's for every 24.

So count yourself lucky if you have an old Savage, it's very doubtful there will be any more.

And regarding the OP, I think he will do well to get 700 for that item, unless he wants to bump his ad for a few months.

Yeah I looked at a 42 before I picked this one up a few years and they are ugly as sin and feel like a toy. Would love to get my hands on a 30-30/20ga or 12ga. Don see them that often and when you do they are pricey. These old ones are great guns.

They are one of those guns that maybe 1 out of 1000 guys want. But they seem quite rare (especially in Canada) and I think the value just seems to keep rising. I really do like it, and the only reason I don't shoot it anymore is the weight. I'm going through some medical crap right now where I've been diagnosed with some inflammatory disease (doc says severe rheumatoid arthritis) which they haven't found anything that really helps at all yet and I can't even shoot anything freehand except my light little bl22 on a good day. It's a hunting gun and is pointless trying to hunt partridge and rabbit dragging my shooting sticks or tripod with me for a rest.

I picked a 20/22 mag last spring for 600.00. I would call it brand new. not a mark on it. Also picked up 223/20 but sold it. 650.00 was what that one cost. When i go tenting off the grid. That is what i take with me along with some 385gr slugs for bear protection.

I would like to mount a reflex red dot sight on mine. but am a little leary on doing so

I was Leary as well. Kept having visions of that mount letting go, but after the amount of shotshells I've fired with that scope attached I totally trust it. I've put around 20 slugs and a half box of federal prarie storm( which kick like a mule on steroids) along with buckshot, other birdshot and some target loads through it and it's never budged. Don't get me wrong it could still happen but after the amount that have been fired I would think if it was gonna let go it would've by now. There is a mount made for them called savage24 perfect adapter which are grooves out properly but already had mine by the time they came out. Like I said in the earlier comments the whole problem is a regular ring or mount is flat on the base and they sit on top of barrel and don't clamp into the grooves on the barrel tight enough. This savage 24 adapter is rounded out so it doesn't rest on top of the barrel and the clamps actually bite. I wouldn't ever tell anybody to just do it and it'll be fine, I can just say that mine is.
