I took a used rifle on trade for my AS NEW item. I know that what I was getting was used and saw photos that seemed good. Well, it just came and on inspection the wood is great! However the receiver obviously had some use, no biggie it IS a used gun afterall. Then, after wiping the receiver with some oil to bring up the colour I found the paper towel had some blackishness to it. So I then tried some gun cleaning solvent......F#@k, looks like somebody went nuts with a sharpie!

The packaging was awesome and the wood is good. I think I'll just put it away and get on with my life. Not even going to look at the feedback button right now.

Being a Henry .22 the receiver is a painted cast metal. From what I can tell there were many scratches and somebody just tried to cover them. I was told that it functions fine and so far it does cycle okay. Nice little gun, just wasn't prepared for the sharpie art!

Holy Crap...I guess next time I inquire about a gun on the EE, I'll have to add this to my list of standard questions: "have you used a sharpie on it to cover up scratches?"...Sheesh!

I'd like to see a pic of the receiver with the "sharpie" removed...... oil shouldn't take off permanent marker that easily..... I wonder if the paint and from the factory uncured...... Also, I have touched up scope rings with a sharpie before and it stands out easily against paint or bluing (looks purple)....

The original finish is solid. All the sharp edges are showing and many scratches. Like I said, I new it was used, I just didn't know that the extent of use would be hidden by magic marker.

Full disclosure is not something we find on the EE...

That's a pretty broad statement from someone with 7 transactions.........

There are many fine members that use the EE.

OP,

Sorry to hear you dealt with a dud. Despite the marker, if this is your first Henry I'm sure you'll like it.
