Packable Shotguns

Winchester model 12 takedown. Fairly easy to find, and it's a great reliable pump shotty that fits into a bag. I have one that fits into a 10/22 takedown pack perfectly. Assembles in seconds without tools, and it's not made in turkey...

Stevens Model 520, with barrel cut down to 18.5 inches (remaining non-restricted) is another option. Not as quick deployment as the Sub2k, but it works.

Edit: no tools needed for disassembly or assembly.

Some great ideas, guys. I didn't know there was so many options. Right now I am leaning towards selling my Sub2K, and picking up the Maverick Thunder Ranch and a Vortex Viper RDS...maybe one or two of those caliber conversion inserts. I think that ticks all of my boxes with more versatility than I was expecting and sounds like fun too.

This is what I ended up going with:

A member here offered this to me in a trade. Short AND takes down easily. Nice looking too I think. I am a guy who loves black guns and polymer...but there is something so appealing about a short barrel break action shotgun.

Looks good Grim, nice recoil pad added and the fibre optic sight!
How do you like that sight? I find with the short barrels you need to pull down right where you've got the sight mounted to crack the barrel...... is it possible to mount it closer to the chamber?

If it's like the 20ga version the gap between the rib and the barrels narrow as you get closer to the chamber, so you can't really move it back any further unless you had thinner plates to fit the smaller gap.

Got the gun yesterday and took it to the range immediately. The sight caused no issues at all with opening. I just pulled down on the foregrip under the sight...didn't really have to think about it. Actually the screws on the sight loosened in my range session and I thought I had lost one of the screws (found by miracle later), so I took it off. The stock sights don't seem too bad and it points pretty naturally...so I may keep it off just for the sake of simplicity.

Can-down I don't see any info on the Limbsaver pad other than the brand.

I recently bought my son a Mossberg HS12 Thunder Ranch 12 gauge O/U 18.5" barrels breakopen shotgun.

It has a picatinny scope rail and two picatinny rails on either sides of the barrels it is a fun fast to breakdown shotgun.

Issues I have had with it are the front fiber optic sight tube started to slide out of the sight and mounting my Leupold Prismatic 1X scope and a Fenix flashlight mount the rails are designed in such a way as they will accept a Streamlight tactical light and scope rings but are machined smaller somehow so the Prismatic integral scope base and the Fenix light mount won't fit tight.

Breaks down into 3 pieces once the barrel is off I snap the forend back onto the barrel so I am only dealing with two pieces.

I also recommend looking at Eberlestock internal scabbard day/backpacks.

Do they still have that stupid safety block so it can't be fired when pointed downward?

There is a new company in Oakville that is selling double barrel shotguns with short Barrels. I think they call themselves Buffalo Bore but I'm not sure. and if I remember right they have short barrel Boito shotguns. full length stock and short barrels. 12 gauge. I saw the add on our club wall . if intrested pm me and I'll look up the name for you.they were around $500 dollars. with fibre optic front sights ??

I recommend the Thunder Ranch too as I have been using it for two years now as my camping shotgun. The rails are a nice feature so a flashlight can be mounted. If I had to shoot something at night I would want to be darn sure what it is!
