I (think I) know the answer already but hoping I'm wrong, but I guess the UN marking on new imports of milsurp (like SKS, SVT-40...) will have to be UN marked in the future?

no, the UN mark is applied EVERY TIME a gun crosses a border into a signatory country, so by the time a gun leaves country of origin and gets marked on the way out (i.e. think Russian recent export marks), maybe goes to Germany, gets marked. Comes to Canada, get's marked again.

Our collectibles will look like a new Ruger with the whole manual stamped onto the barrel.

People will get over it. There are surplus guns with lots of markings. I imported guns from middle east that had
German ,British, Egyptian and israeli markings. Original guns rebuilt many times.
The point is, the guns will do what you want them to do....fire.

I won't get over it, I have a long memory. Defacing historic weapons for no good purpose is the height of stupidity. Just another in a long line of Liberal stupidity which is why I will loathe them for the rest of my days.

Passport for firearms .
Every time they are marked will add a few bucks, & on resale devalued compared to other guns which are not.

Thanks Turdo! I hope to feel as secure as you will .

This is inconspicuous?? And we're all supposed to be safer for it? How does that work???? If some gang banger in Toronto wants to blow away a rival member, they are going to find a firearm and I'm willing to bet they are not going to use a P08 or C96....My G#&, i'd be OK with a marking say, under the grip or some inconspicuous place that was not so readily apparent, but this....Is this what we can expect? I'm a law abiding Canadian citizen and a responsible firearms owner who pays my taxes and contributes to a healthy, productive domestic society... I also happen to enjoy being the custodian of historical firearms and preserving their integrity as historical objects (despite the flip flopping public opinion) as best I can for the next generation......where's my voice in all this? I agree that tracking a firearm used in a violent crime is appropriate, but isn't the serial number enough? Isn't that the whole reason why I register my restricted firearms? Why permanently mar a tangible memento of global history in such a conspicuous manner? Sad days indeed.

Just let this be a reminder......next election!!!

Too little, too late. And like this thread shows, not all the gun owners are upset in the least 'bout it.
I've always predicted a second term for Right Honourable Prime Minister Justin M. Trudeau.
After all. he'll still be reasonably cute and cuddly in another 6 years.
And obviously that's all that matters for 39.6% of the voters.

Defacing historical firearms is never a good thing in my opinion. I know I won't be importing any more matching K98k's and most serious collectors I know won't be either. I won't be too upset over some m/m refurb getting marked but it still isn't ideal.

Pretty sad that it has come to this. This will do zero to prevent crime.

Same here. There is no point in this marking, and it only destroys historical items.
