Is the Benelli MR1 worth it?

I'm looking at getting a NR "Black Rifle" and thought I had it narrowed down to either an ACR or Swiss Arms.

However a friend recently showed me his Benelli MR1 and I have been thinking maybe that wouldn't be a terrible way to go either. Mostly because of the price though haha..

Is this gun worth considering or should I go for something a bit better if money is not the main concern?

It is a decent rifle for what it is. Unfortunately it is a oddball. If you just want a 5.56 plinker for the range or a ghopher popper at a 100 meters, it is quite adequate.

If you want a legitimate black rifle, one that is ergonomically correct and could serve you the rest of your life including any potential SHTF scenario, I would look elsewhere.

I had one and liked it. But there are better choices. I would personally want to own a CZ58 in 5.56 for a rifle in the same price range as a MR1.

What does "better" mean for you?

Lighter?
More reliable?
Cheaper?
Better balanced?
Availability of consumable parts?
Availability of parts and accessories to customize to your liking?
Ease of cleaning/clean running?
Ease of caliber conversion/barrel changes?
Communality with STANAG magazines?
Aesthetics?
Brand name?

Only you can answer these questions.

My friend's dad has an MR1
The ergonomics are really awkward.
The bolt release and mag release are too far forward to reach, making quick mag changes an issue.
Its felt recoil is nice but taking it down to clean is dreadful.
Some also have an issue with certain lar15 mags with FTEs every second round.
Mounting accessories is limited, optics are raised fairly high and it doesn't have a threaded barrel for muzzle devices.
I'd say save up and buy something suited to your needs rather than settling for something cheaper and in the end not being totally satisfied with it.

The MR-1 was designed for places where things like the Swissarms and ACR are banned, or for people not particularly inclined to buy "tactical" rifles in the first place.

If you just want a nonres semi .223, it's fine. But if your heart was set on something like an ACR, the MR-1 will disappoint.

Mine shoots 5 62gr Tula HPs into a 1.7" pattern at 100yards no problem.... Hasn't jammed yet either. Easy to clean, and disassemble.... Used it for 3 gun last summer, my mag changes weren't any slower than most of the AR dudes.... But the lack of having a threaded barrel for muzzle comp. Made the follow up shots slower than the ARs.

It's cheap to chop and thread the barrel. Dlask did mine for around $150.

I value NR status over better ergos so I don't shoot my AR much anymore and just shoot my MR-1. Better to be good with the rifle that you can/will have with you than the rifle back at home in the gun cabinet with a trigger lock on it.

I asked a store owner about the mr1, told me he won't carry them cause he never seen one shoot straight.

Store owners say lots of things lol , he's probably never seen one shoot , just heard from a buddy, who has a buddy, whos cousin had one and couldn't do MOA with it so said it sucks lol.

I have it and live it, far less issues than ANY AR I have used. Got mine used for $1400, I have 2 ARs and the MR1 is better in some ways. I had my barrel threaded and a bird cage put on, use G.I. mags or Pmag gen 3

Yea, his knowledge is possibly worth what I paid for it
