So I'm dusting off the old 1022, looking to get few boxes of ammo to try out? I have access to CT, Cabelas etc?
50rds or bulk? some names I recall are Federal, CCI Mini Mags, Rem etc?

I seem to have really good luck with anything CCI in all 3 of my 22s. Hunting with them I use CCI mini mags and if I'm target shooting I get very good accuracy out of CCI standard velocity.

I'll second what the colonel is saying. CCI SV has been very reliable for me and is usually the first ammo I try in a new .22. Cycles well in my 597 and has been very consistent accuracy wise.

^good advice. CCI is pretty consistent stuff. For target shooting/accuracy, standard velocity tends to be a better performer (be it CCI, Federal, higher-grade stuff etc.) but for hunting, often the higher velocity stuff can provide better results. Accuracy (sometimes) being the trade-off. My experience with 10/22 accuracy hasn't been great, so in my honest opinion...I'd probably try a small box of everything you can get your hands on and see how the gun likes it. I have a hunch one will be better than the others...then use that for everything.

stick to the round nose projectiles in .22 and they feed a lot better i love rem yellow jackets but they feed terrible in my 10/22

Any "good" deals to be had at Cabelas? over Cdn Tire? I was looking at CT's prices online and they "seemed" high? Thanks BTW for all the good advice, well done!!
Maybe more along the "bulk" pricing & ammo?

Aren't too many deals out there with the Canadian dollar being so weak compared to the US dollar. Best guess is to look around. I find Canadian Tire's prices to be the highest...Cabela's/Bass pro not too far apart...but still more $ than some of the independent gun shops I deal with. Wasn't that long ago that you bought whatever you COULD get because there was so little around. That's corrected itself, so selection is there...along with higher prices.

However, my previous post is still what I'd suggest~try everything you can get your hands on. Some will shoot well, some won't. Some might even be terrible. For that reason alone, I'd suggest doing your bulk ammo/bargain searching as the SECOND item of business. You'll save yourself from the possibility of buying thousands of rounds your gun won't shoot worth a d**n...just because it cost a little less. Won't be a "win" for you.

Good advice, I"m going to see what "it" likes and go from there, however I'm not getting too fussy, so a "good bang for the buck" is what I'm after.
I've used Rem & Fed, but not CCI? so I'm guessing it's on the list.

The new Remington stuff is very dirty, Winchester not much better CCI sale at gotenda.com 99.99 for 1,000 rounds (standard vel.)

I totally agree with you. My marlin 60 being clean will start jamming up in less than 100 rounds with remington thunderbolts and Winchester within not much more. The federal bulk pack stuff is very reliable but isn't great for accuracy out of my semi.

mine gets fed Fed AM22 and seems to like it ok - 2 words Auto and Match, its got to be good!

another one I like is Aguila red box, CCI has a good rep it seems and I like the Ar Tac

If you like cheap, try the American Eagle red box, this and most federal stuff is a bit dirty I find.

Local TSC has Remington Thunderbolt on sale $30.00 for 500. These shoot great in my rifle but... there is noticeable variation in the "bang" that they make, shell to shell (some quieter than others).

Sold my Ruger 10/22 and bought a Remington 597...way more accurate if you ask me.

And it loves the Federal 525 value pack ammo..American Eagle is good too.

Everything I own prefers Federal 525... everyone is currently sold out around home; but TSC has Remington Thunderbolt on for $30.00/500.

My shoots almost any ammo without problems, the Remington Golden bullets seem to be the dirtiest by far. For bulk ammo the Federal in the blue & black box works great.
