ive done a little looking but cant find anything... i have a GSG 1911 my first and only pistol right now and i would like to put a little red dot on it but i dont want that big mount that wraps around the slide and frame. so is there a way to mount a red dot where the rear sight sits on the gun?...

what about a laser dot that you can simply attach to the tactical grip? I have a GSG1911 too. All I have seen as far as mounts are the wraparound GSG version. I'm new to pistols and after picking up two larger caliber pistols found a place for a .22 trainer.
Even the small red dots that mount in place of the rear sight are heavier than the rear sight by quite a lot. On a centerfire gun with a heavy steel slide the change in cycled mass is a small percentage gain. But the GSG is a rimfire gun and the slide is made from a much lighter alloy. And fitting it with even the small red dots will cause a major percentage increase in the mass that has to be cycled. So it's quite possible that it will slow down or shorten the cycling of the slide which could lead to jams.
One way to tell would be to look up the weight of the sight you want to use and weigh out that much "stuff" which you can then duct tape to your slide. Then with the gun pointed at a berm at the range test fire it. If it jams within the first mag one or more times then that tells you right away that you can't do this. If it really shortens the ejection path of the empties and results in failure to lock back on the last round that's a sign that it's slowing down and reducing the travel of the slide. Jams are not far away in that case.
On the other hand if the empties are flying out more than a foot to the side before they fall back level with the gun and fall to the ground and the slide locks open on the last shot then you might well be OK with the new sight. Perhaps even make the weight of the stuff you tape to the slide a couple of grams more than the sight weight just as a safety/reliability buffer to be sure before you plunk down your money. And be sure that you include the weight of the duct tape used to hold the "stuff" in place in your calculations. You'll need to use enough of it to ensure the weight stays locked to the slide.
On the other hand if your duct tape trials are a total failure then at least you know that's a non starter of an idea.

Then I think you are hooped.
Dawson Precision makes a rear sight to fit that dovetail but I have not ever seen any kind of mount that would replace the rear sight.....

Read what BC Rider wrote he knows what he is talking about. You need a .22 where the entire slide does not move. The Ruger is one, the CZ .22Kit is another, as is the Browning Benchmark. I doubt you are going to find the 1911 22 is going to work but try BC Riders suggestion, You will know right away if the gun will work with a slide mounted red dot.

We'd both be guessing if we agreed that it might not be an issue.
I do have to wonder at how much the gun is beating itself up with the Mini Mag rounds if it will cycle with Quiets. I mistakenly took some Quiets with me one day for my 41 instead of the SV I intended to take. The gun would not cycle with the Quiets which is what I'd expect. I'm sort of thinking you have the wrong recoil spring. Or it's an overly soft one that snuck into the batch at GSG by accident.
Pretty simple actually. Drill and tap your frame for a 2011 cmore mount. Done.
Not really, the OP is using a .22LR which may not cycle the slide with any extra added weight.
I'm not saying it can't be done, but I haven't seen it yet. If this was a feasible mod I'm sure someone would have done it by now. I have to agree that the slide is probably too light to cycle properly,,,,,, but if you do it and it works I would love to see it!!!
ok so even if its not likely gonna work i still want to try... (just cause)... so is there a piece that will slide into the cutout for the rear sight that will allow a red dot to be mounted on it? or a red dot thats made just to slide into that cutout
Yes, you might be able to find a mount that will fit your guns dovetail. You would be better off searching google than asking here though. Before you spend $80 -$100 on a dovetail mount why not take five minutes out of your day and follow BC Riders advice. I suspect you are going to find the combination of slide weight and Optic weight to be to much for the gun to handle but maybe not. Tape a couple of loonies or toonies on the back of the slide and see.
