hi all, looking to add a powder check to my 650, i'm pretty sure i'm going with a lockout die for pistol, but was wondering what you guys use for rifle? specifically 223 ammo

Honestly i dont use anything. I use a bullet feeder die.

Another option is to weight rounds to see if some are out of spec.

I use the Dillon case checker in my 650's and won't load a round without it while using the powder throw. I don't believe the visual method is more convenient nor is it more reliable...the case checker is basically fool-proof so the visual method is equal but standing up and craning to see in a case isn't comfy to my way of thinking. I can sit in a chair and crank out rounds by the thousands without a worry about the powder content in any case. My press is used by a couple of very green re-loaders and with the powder checker they can watch everything making it way thru the reloading process without looking in every case...works wonderfully for them.

Personally I consider the checker an "essential" buy with a 650...you sure cant by a replacement barrel for a pistol for under a 100 bucks.

Visual check for two reasons;

1) bullet feeder set up on a 650
2) i would always find powder stuck to my powder case checker... it doesn't matter what i did to clean it.
