What's your favourite turkey decoy and why?
Do you have one go to call?

I like the Bobblin Head Hen, it's got good movement in a slight breeze, a relaxed hen feeding. Light weight to carrying in as well. I also use an Avian Jake but all birds seem to lock in on the Bobblin Hen.

My go to call is a Derby City Slate Pot Call, real nice sound, high or low volume, a beautiful piece.
I also use a Woodhaven Real Hen Box Call and a Quacker Boy Cyclone Push button. I stick a mouth call in just for flavour..

So far this season just hens and jakes coming in, trying a different spot this afternoon.

A turkey lounger chair has made this season much more enjoyable!

I am still trying out different decoys, but Primos Wet Box Call has worked several years in a row now! And as the name suggests, it still works (if not better) if it gets wet. This is especially helpful for the wet spring season.

Favourite decoy is the Avian X breeder and laydown hens. All of the Avian X decoys are amazing. Quality and realism is second to none.

No preference to brand of calls as I use many different ones. As for type of call, I like using box calls and slate calls.

I use more decoys than most... five in total but don't necessarily put them all out on every stand... I use Avian-X decoys; two feeder hens, one breeder, one 1/4 Strut jake and one 1/2 strut jake... if any stay in the truck, it is usually the 1/2 strut jake (bulky decoy), followed by one of the feeders. I am a clay pot fan and have dozens of custom pots by many artists... right now I am holding a walnut/slate pot by Rich Leathers with a cocobolo striker.

Fancy!!

As for multiple decoys, I usually use 3 on my stand. I like using a couple hens (Avian X Breeder and Laydown hen) and I also like using a motorized strutting jake decoy (Bass Pro Reality). I dont always have the jake on motion unless a bird hangs up. Its amazing to see how aggressive a Tom can get when he see's this....

I harvested a nice Tom last spring with a similar setup. He was pretty aggressive and charged right into my Jake decoy - putting and strutting. The Francotte barked and he went home with me.

I like a box call but I have a few pot calls. I made some by ordering parts from Brookside (sp?) calls. I have a custom call by Gobblestalker as well. It is Cocobolo with crystal over glass. It's pretty loud but works great for the old hen or on a windy day.

I have been using the pretty boy with lay down hen and a bobble head hen for many years with great success.

I am like turkey batman..... my vest has a call in every pocket and I carry 3 dekes in the back.... I am a 90% run and gun style hunter as I just prefer it, so sometimes the dekes don't get used..... it all depends how far the responding gobble comes from and how much time I feel I have to set up......

That being said, I have a custom box call from Al Willis in South Carolina that gets the call 90% of the time..... amazing tone..... but it's essential to have 9 backups ( :) )......

Has anyone ever had much success turkey hunting mid day?
Or is it a waste of time?

Absolutely...... but call less and more quietly and stay more vigilant...... the odds are lower as you are chasing birds that didn't pair up yet, but they are still there......

Got a nice Tom this morning. Two of them came charging in to my AvianX Tom strutter and breeder hen. I had the decoys at 10 yards and shot him at about 8. His buddy didn't even care that I shot him, he still strutted in front of my decoys for 45 minutes until I finally had enough and stood up. He still didn't run or move until I walked out of the bush line.

I have video of him at about 10ft for 5 minutes spitting and drumming at full strut.

21lb
9.5" beard
1" spurs

I've been pulling in hens everyday, have yet to hear a single gobble..
I'm into it this season, sooner or later it will pay off.

Anyone have a go to diaphragm call?

I can't use diaphragm calls... high gag reflex... but my son is a wizard with one... I can't tell his calling from real turkeys.

When I use decoys I use this with a hen most of the time I just pattern them. Like all critters when it is mating season turkey are not that bright. Jake fan works best for me.
