Thinking of getting an AR. My questions are as follows: with so much talk of the AR platform being made prohib, is it worth it to invest in a range gun that may soon become a thing of the past? Maybe I'm misreading the signs, but I'm no longer sure that it will be worth the trouble (especially if not grandfathered). Am looking for opinions, not necessarily the gospel truth, and I appreciate all your years of experience before I invest a tidy sum.

If AR is the way to go, any thoughts on a Bushmaster? Daniel Defense is a bit pricy given the uncertainty, but I can get a nice Bushmaster for a reasonable price. Worth getting? I looked at a Stag Arms as well, but I like the Bushmaster feel.

Finally, and totally off topic, but is there any special trick to getting a jammed (thankfully empty) LAR 15 plastic mag out of a tight T97? Thanks to terrible advice, I broke a cardinal rule (like feeding a gremlin after midnight) and used plastic mags for my T97. Now I'm all out of elbow grease and still can't clear that mag. Very frustrating!
 
Every Canadian resident should own an AR. Do your duty.
I look at it this way: if it goes prohibit there's zero chances of obtaining one ever again so now's your chance. If they don't get seized you have a real nice looking brick.
 
I just got a Bushmaster and when I saw the RCMP bulletin I took it apart and measured. It is bang on 11mm in the receiver where they are claiming the issue is so it is on the safe list...for now.
 
AR15 going prohib 2 years from an election?

I bought my first AR specifically because of this concern. Now I have three. I think the more there are in Canadian civilian hands, the more likely there is to be serious trouble for any government that tries to ban the. Look at the fuss over the Swiss Arms rifles...there were only a few thousands of them out there, right?

But, that was with the Cons/Harper ... Cons are the only party that legal gun owners can have some confidence on.

If the Libs will still win on 2019 .... I think we will have a very hard fight ahead.

that election is very far from being won, well i guess the new canadian refugees will vote for them, wow

i think it will be a minority conservative government again
 
Personally I wouldn't go for a Bushmaster as my first choice . For a lower-end AR I'd go for a Windham Arms or S&W M&P15. You can even find Colts on the EE for not much more .

And it is 100% worth it to get one now.
 
If you refrain from buying legally purchasable property because of possible legislation you're already losing.
Buy the best you're comfortable spending and enjoy it. Then fight like hell to keep it.
 
I was also told the AR15 was going prohib with new legislation coming and that I should sell mine. I did. That was 1992. I quickly bought another.

Read my lips: "Buy a ****ing AR." They kick-ass and they're super fun.

The libs/RCMP will try to chip away at us, but they can't simply make them prohib; there's a lot of us, and we're united though the internet.

If you like Bushmaster's rifles, get one. I would also recommend Windham Weaponry for a quality starter AR.
 
That RCMP bulletin will not affect 99.99% of the ARs that are currently on the dealers shelves or in people possession.
 
I have a bushmaster and love it. I've put in it well over 2000 rounds just this year and it's still going strong. Get one and shoot with confidence.

Oh yeah. Buck the liberals. Get an AR. Rest assured, they won't change its status. It's all bullcrap
 
And the whole point of this is to impact the hordes of machine gun crimes in Canada? More people have died from squirrel bites than from machine guns so I'm not really sure why this is even an issue.

Thanks lads, much appreciate the advice. I will get the Bushmaster this week for sure. I've wanted an AR for a while, but I find it's getting harder to hit the range and I was spooked by all the prohibition talk. Will buy one and enjoy it.
 
I was never a fan of the spooky black "modern" rifles until I shot one. These things are a hoot, they're like a Mecanno set that shoots bullets. Shoot it, change it, customize it any way you want and affordable ammunition, what's not to like?
