Nova Scotia Moose Draw ...345 tags available?

Ouch ... 31880 available in NL.

What kind of logistics are involved in being an out of province hunter? Apart from the costs for licensing/tags is there a site where one could go to figure out how much it would cost to ship the meat of a successful hunt back to ontario for example?

edit: did some google fu, and found the info... It's not nearly as expensive as i thought.

And just because you got lucky enough to get drawn for a tag doesn't mean you are actually going to get to hunt, just try driving up one of those mountain roads in Cape Breton during hunting season without making prior arrangements with some of the locals to "guide" or supervise your camp while you are out in the bush. Hunting moose in CB can be a lot more complicated than finding a moose.
NFLD has far better odds and a much better experience for just a few more dollars. Just my opinion.

Anyone off the province has to purchase tags from outfitter, prices vary - a lot - Bare bones starting price is about $5000.00

Can go as high as $15000.00

Many hunters from NS, NB and even Eastern Seaboard US, bring truck, generator and freezer and drive.

Just to rub it in - I pay about $50.00 ...

345 for those who play by the rules and apply. I will leave it at that. Good luck, I plan to pick up a 649 ticket might have better odds.

Try getting an elk tag in Ontario where there's 50 something tags available for the whole province. As much as I dislike wealthy people using their money to get what they want, I would actually support the idea of those few tags being auctioned off for a few years to bring in some revenue for reintroducing more animals.

Good luck to those who applied. We need to change the way this draw is conducted. Very very fishy but who knows. NS is so behind times when it comes to hunting it isn't funny.

We are looking into it, but $5000 each + cost to drive both ways from ON is a bit steep. Anybody want to adopt us? Guaranteed group size for ON 18A (Nakina) is 7 for bull, 5 for cow. Only better WMU you can drive to is 16A (Pickle Lake) 4 for bull 3 for cow. Oh for the good old days! The system is seriously flawed.
