Hello everyone, I'm fairly new into guns and I have a quick question. I am looking for a .45 Smith and Wesson handgun that could shoot .40 SW ammo. Or something similar, is this even possible?

1911 is the "style" of pistol, it can come chambered in many different calibers. 9mm, .357, .357 Sig., .40 S&W, 45ACP , .38 , 38 Supra, etc.

So it is possible to shoot a .40 through a sw1911?

Smith and Wesson does not offer a 1911 style pistol chambered in 40S&W.

Does that answer your question?

There are 1911 style pistols offered by other manufacturers that are chambered in 40S&W.
