Hey Guys;

I picked up a 1991 Marlin 336 in 35 Rem & liked it so much that I had to get a 30-30... So I grabbed a new production Marlin 336ss in 30-30.

I topped the 1991 with a period correct Leupold Vari-X III 1.5-5x20 and then I topped the stainless with a VX-III 1.5-5x20. I think they look perfect on a lever gun, not to mention that my aging eyes 'need' a scope... Chuckle

I'm waiting on the arrival of a BearTooth Mercantile cross bolt safety delete & a hammer spur for the stainless...

I am considering installing Wild West Trigger Happy Kits on both guns... Anyone got any experience with them?

Who else loves LEVER guns for thick woods hunting?

P.S. The stainless will eventually be given to my daughter. I hope she's interested in this stuff... If not, I'm keeping it for myself! Chuckle




Here is how the 35 Rem shoots... Hoping the 30-30 is as good... Time to hit the range!

Nice looking pair of bush guns. That 35rem is in excellent condition for a 91,.. hard to beat lever guns in the thick stuff, they just seem to feel right for the job. Only thing I see wrong is you got those space age pointy bullets for the 35,... you gotta have the old round nose for the bush,...lol j/k. I've been using a BLR 284win with a red dot sight for my bush gun for the past couple years, but I picked up a 1983 Marlin in 35rem so I might put a Red Dot on it and use it for a few seasons. I used a Remington Model 8 chambered in 35rem when I first started deer hunting,.. To me, the 35rem seems to be right at home in the thick woods,.. hard to beat it.

Thanks! But I can't see the point of DOUBLE safeties? The half #### is there on the hammer, why do you 'need' the cross bolt? The way I see it, some day it will be ON and you will take aim on a buck, only for the gun to go CLICK instead of BOOM...

I use the crossbolt when resetting the hammer after loading my first round directly into the chamber. I hunt on half ####, safety off. Also use it when I'm too lazy to pop the mag empty through the loading gate and just lever them up. Fall 2015 was click instead of boom on my Ruger 96. Regaining my composure I got all 3 Deer! I have Winchesters, Rugers and Marlins both with and without crossbolt safeties. I don't miss 'em if they aren't there and use 'em if they are. Clear as mud huh!
 
I love my JM Marlin 45/70 guide gun for thick bush. Topped with a red dot it's a great combo for running deer when the hounds are tongueing.

I like the checkering on the 30-30 though and the satin finish on the wood does go well with the SS in my opinion of course.
The 35 Rem and the Pie plate, the top are holes are the first three shots and the second set closer to center the adjusted point of impact?
There certainly is something to like about those Marlins...

I have a 1970 Marlin 30/30, 1975 Marlin 35 Rem (one of my favourite calibres), and 1975 444 Marlin. They all shoot MOA at 100yds. Keeping my eye open for a same period Marlin 1895 in 45/70
 
yeah nice pair, I like that 35!
you know me, I'm a sucker for levers in the close range bush stalking !! as random as the 375 was to me , if it had of been a 35 I wouldn't of minded either!
