Hey

I have been competing in IPSC for the past few years and have shot each division except revolver and Open.
Recently a friend of mine let me use his open gun during a club match and now I cant go back!!!

If you have experience with either of these 2 platforms, what are your thoughts?

I'm not partial to either. I have shoot a match with an STI 2011 and about a full mag outta the Tanfoglio before.
Does it just come down to preference or is there some factors I should consider before I pull the trigger on acquisition (PUN INTENDED!!)
Ill be going with a 9mm major in whichever one I choose.

Cheers

Couple things.

Price. 2011 are head first down the rabbit hole on this. There are Smith's that build them.

Parts and service. Tons more for 2011s. Freedom Ventures are absolutely fantastic and can help you with your decision really. They sell both and are the importer for Tanfos up here.

After shooting both you already know wich one felt better in your hand. Buy that one.

Thanks

I have shot both but I must say I didn't truly get a feel for which I liked best as the mag I shot outta the tanfoglio was just me dumping a mag as fast as possible (with great results I mite add lol) but not enough to say I really liked it more than the 2011.

The 2011 was really nice to shoot in a match, but it was a gun set up for a lefty so I didn't really get to utilize the gun to its full potential as the thumb rest was on the wrong side, etc. Also found it really hard to track the dot. That's because a static shoot of one mag is completely different than the dynamic movements around a stage. Once I moved or transitioned to another target I often couldn't find the dot and I could literally hear the timer ticking away lol.

I have been leaning towards to tanfoglio but I do understand the parts and service for 2011 is much more prevalent.

My price range is right around the new gold custom or trubor price tag, but I have been considering the DVC open which is a little more than I wanted to spend but it may be worth it.

Thanks for your input thought.

I shoot a Tanfo and never had a parts issue. The other thing about a Tanfo is that its easier to work on then a 2011/1911.
