I can't get through more than 3 or 4 rounds before I have a malfunction. The brass will usually eject but it won't load a new round. The odd time it won't even eject the round, it simply pulls the empty case partially back then pins it in the action. Manually cycling the action ejects the round and loads a fresh one. It rarely locks the bolt back after the last round; however, it locks back on every mag I have when I manually cycle the action. Brass is tossed 2-3 feet away when it manages to eject on it's own.

I have tried CDP, Magpul, IMI and LAR mags as well as Norinco 5.56 and PMC XTAC ammo. Field stripped and cleaned all parts. Over-lubed and under-lubed. Doesn't matter what I do I get the same results. I'm about to send it to NS for warranty service but before I do I'm hoping someone might already have a solution to this problem. Thoughts?

This is a shot in the dark.

i had the same problem with XCR-M. Might be completely irrelevant, but Tavor has the same piston system.

I opened gas port and still casing were just dropping out of the rifle. Until I cleaned gas tube/sleeve (it had some kind of oil in it). After shooting it turned into sticky goo. I cleaned it, and not a single malfunction since then. Silky smooth BCG movement too.

I used a couple shots of Kleen flo break cleaner in the piston when i first got it to wash our the grime and all black crap poured out of it in 500 rounds i haven't had any issues with it.

I just finished field stripping the rifle, soaking the BCG in mineral spirits, spraying non-chlorinated brake cleaner in the gas tube and wiping brake clean on the rails to make sure there was no left-over cosmoline etc. A couple of interesting discoveries were the firing pin had what looks to be a bunch of copper or brass flakes that easily wiped off. That in and of itself wasn't surprising considering all ejected brass looks pretty beat up from the extractor and could explain the flakes on the firing pin. Of more concern was a buildup of flakes on and around the head of the gas piston. Any thoughts on what might be causing that and what I should do about it?

I have seen brass flakes in the bolt quite often when using norinco ammo. Occasional pierced primers and primer extrusions get into the bolt and can damage the firing pin. The stoppages seem to be a result of insufficient gas.

I've put an equal number of rounds of the same Norinco ammo through my AR and have yet to see any flakes on the bolt or firing pin or have any issues at all for that matter.

So after the thorough cleaning I went to the range and did a function test using PMC XTAC 5.56 62gr ammo. Couldn't get through 20 rounds without multiple failures and after 30 rounds it turned into a bolt action. The rifle is going back for warranty today.

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, just curious how your warranty went and what the discovered issue was. I am having the exact same issues. Bought my rifle almost a year ago and am finally sending it in to get looked at.

They sent it back saying they cleaned and test fired the rifle and couldn't find anything wrong with it. I skeptically took it to the range and haven't had a single failure since getting it back. I really have no idea what happened but am happy that it's working.

I had similar issues with A Gen I Tavor - turns out it was my Gen 2 PMAGS. I switched to Okay USGI mags and it runs just fine.
