Yeah, the Savage MKII is currently my favorite gun to shoot out of the 8 firearms I own.
It's by far the cheapest second only to my beloved Rem 597.
I finally found a set of the Tech sights for it from a company who will ship them to Canada! Can't wait to see what this can really do with the 12" longer sight radius and precision front post/peep sight combo :rockOn:

ruger american rimfire probably the best bang for the buck. can find it on sale under $400. brand new. action on "V" blocks (sorry savage mark II, never liked those actions). 10/22 mags. speadloaders are available. threaded barrels are coming here too. trigger is offers plenty of adjustment.
 
I'll throw in another vote for the Savage MKii. Picked mine up as my first rifle at a local gun show for $150 with a Tasco 3-9 mounted and a ten round mag. My Henry Frontier is my favourite .22 and most shot but the Savage is a close second. Has functioned perfectly through many bricks of ammo and is pretty darn accurate.

OP keep an eye on the gun shows. Great place to find reasonably priced gems just do your research before you go as some vendors will price high expecting a little haggling (read, enjoy the art of negotiation).

I'm guessing at that pull weight of course.. basically, it decided to shoot without even touching the trigger. My LGS promptly replaced it, and I sold the replacement NIB. They're a novelty gun in my opinion, not comfortable to hold/shoot. Maybe an OK pack gun or truck gun if you'll only be taking a shot here and there. I would never suggest it as "the" .22 to own if you could only have one. That's about the nicest way I can say it.

I have the Magnum version and once you can get used to the 1 pound trigger pull, it is an accurate well made little rifle.Just don't touch the trigger unless you want to go bang.I think it is the all time best little cheap rifle.Small, foolproof, take everywhere gun.

i have the .22lr and the trigger pull is 4lbs
