I worked very hard for this bird, took him home yesterday morning.
He'll be dunked in hot peanut oil tomorrow.

My thoughts:

1- nice bird
2- not a bad price on that jeep
3- either of those top two loads should work for you, but if you are willing to pay the premium for the hevi-shot, go for it....

Buy a box of long beard and carlson choke for long beard. You will not be disappointed, you will be shocked.

But go for the #6 XR's next time to see better results. I don't see why they even bother producing turkey loads with #4 shot as pattern density is far more important than penetration when talking turkey.

I'll second the shocked part...I literally laughed out loud the first time I tried 3" 1 3/4 oz Winchester XR #6 at 40 yards with Jellyhead and Undertaker chokes. Looking to try the 3 1/2", 2 1/8oz shell to see what that pattern looks like.

I messed around a bit with patterning shotguns for turkey but strangely every tom or jake I killed was within 25 yards:confused: Could have got the job done with a trap load.

I suppose you've never had a big tom hang up at 50 yards because he knew something was up and Mr Tom would simply laugh at those trap loads? Many turkey hunters have wounded, completely missed or refused to shoot birds at extended ranges due to using loads that throw sparse patterns. When hunting heavily pressured public land birds you do everything you can to put the odds in your favor.

My patterns were going a tad to the left, just a bit.
So today I set this shotgun scope on top to see how I liked it...
Hmm, I don't think I'm feeling it.
Maybe stick with Kentucky windage, or maybe a Red Dot?

I just blasted my tom with 2 3/4 #4 with my old auto 5 with modified choke, was close , about 20 feet, half its head was missing

I'm all in on it now Dutch!
I got it mounted the way I like it now, everything all snugged up.
The saddle mount is awesome, let's you still use the bead if needed.
I have an Indian Creek Black Diamond choke on the way and some Federal Heavyweight to try.
Will post the results next week.

I have to agree with the Winchester LB in #6 shot. You do not need to go with any larger shot now. The scope will help yes.

The problem I see with red dots is No magnification and when you start to need them readers you need the Mag. I had a guy out last week that shot below a 30 yard gobbler because he could not see properly from a red dot with no power. helps big time.
