Opinions on Beretta 92s

The mag release on ths grip kills it for me. I agree with Conscript here. Save up and get a nice 92fs or a 92a1 if you have to have a Beretta.
Look at the girsan yavuz 16. They are clones of Berrettas and half the price. They are made with actually Beretta tools that the company bought directly from Berretta.

Yes, get newer models if possible, but they're expensive. If you're looking at a 92A1 make sure it's USA and not Italy made, the Italian guns don't have a standard 1913 pic rail and many accessories will not work.
They are very nice pistols, accurate, smooth recoiling. Out of the box you may not like it the best, but a D recoil spring and change of grips makes a big difference.
I had to put a short reach trigger on mine, and I preferred a steel non capture recoil spring and guide rod. I liked my 92A1 with upgrades over my Glock with upgrades.

I have 2 of each and have not noticed any difference in the fit of any accessories on the rails.
Yup great gun cool bit of history too...as others have said swap the grips and you're looking good.
Stay away from the girsan it's not worth it imo it's a copy....get a regular fs if you're concerned about traditional controls. Magazines are available too just have to have the extra cut out.
It wasn't about money for me in choosing this model it was about the history of this particular firearm. It's show some holster wear but the internals are near perfect and it shoot great.
My only complaint is the sights but it's manageable if you take your time...would I carry this gun for life and liberty, not my first choice. Is it fun at the firing range, Yup!

Good stuff I'm sure you will like it. Mine shoots great and the trigger is very nice, dare I say better then my cz75 
ill say the Beretta definitely surprised me and i guess I expected more from the cz with all the pumped up cz fans.

I bought one six months ago and I love it. It is a smooth and ultra-reliable gun. Over 1000 rounds and not one hangup. Other observations:
- Buy the D spring to lighten the trigger pull. It's a drop-dead easy upgrade
- Not sure I'd go for the newer model with the rail underneath. They already charge a premium for this gun and the one with the rail is even more. And in Canada, what good is a rail anyway other than looks.
- I picked up a set of Pachmayer rosewood grips for mine and to my taste they look really sweet.
- It's a large and heavy gun for a 9mm so it is very easy to shoot accurately.

Yup I bought one from Marstar for $499 and I am very pleased with this Beretta.
I have 5 boxes down the pipe with no issues at all...That's right none at all! No failure to fire ,no failure to feed,no failure to extract.
As uncle Cy would say...happy happy happy..
92A1 made in the US ...really are you sure? Best information via the Beretta Forum is that all 92A1's are made in Italy and the picatinny rail is a standard rail. Mine looks just like the one on my SIG 226 Mke 25, M&P amd CX4 Carbine.

I have admit I am caught. The 92S is a decent buy but for me the sights are going to be an issue, older eyes, and really for another $250 virtually new 92FS come up on the EE all the time. I have two 92A1's acquired for $850 or less that were as new with less than 100 rds down the pipe. The 92A1 comes with dovetail front sights, rail, and the larger hammer cross pin. Now I am putting coins away for a 92Compact for CCP Division in IDPA. The Berettas are just so reliable, accurate and have a different feel for recoil due I think to the fact the barrel remains fixed.
If coins are a concern the Girsan is a very good alternative. Agaqin gently used ones can be had for half the price of a Beretta. I think I read somewhere they are 92F copies.
