Pick 3 **centerfire cartridges** to cover NA game

.223 fer vahmints
.308 fer other critters
.375 H&H fer ornery critters

Mind you, personally, for the tyes of hunting I do, 44 mag, 45-70 and 300 WM would be ideal. Almost all close range stuff, except for (planned) longer range shots at bears in blueberry patches. ALso, given that where I hunt deer is a shotgun-only, a rifled 12 or 20 gauge instead of the 44 - but Gawd, I love the 44. Can I sell the wife and keep the 44? (On the EE, she'd be "minty", with original box, no papers, legally, she'd by just shy of RCMP antique status)

I go the route less travelled!

.250 Savage for varmints and deer, because it's dead ###y;
.284 Winchester for an all-round creature killer;
9.3 x 64mm Brennekke for moose, elk, grizzly, attack helicopters...

I know, ammo availability on all three isn't great, but I like the odd ducks.

For what is in my safe at this moment .243 Winchester, 7mm Reminton magnum and the third I haven't added yet. I'm debating between a .338 Winchester magnum, .35 Whelen and the loony in me would like a .358 Norma magnum or big bore lever gun.

After much deliberation and endless reading, I added a .260 rem and 300 WM to go with my .280 AI. For my hunting and shooting, those three I feel are of most use to me (and all are still "hunting" rifles). Later if I want more out of the .260 then I'll get it reamed out to an AI.

Sure....Ill bite.
223...because it is awesome, can find ammo anywhere and not break the bank, zapps critters well, and just fun to shoot.
260 Rem because like its older cousin the 6.5x55 will kill what ever you want, light on the shoulder, easy to tune, stupid accurate, and I could go on more....
and finally the venerable 338 win mag, because it is great to look down a larger bore, you can get ammo anywhere, manageable accuracy and it covers all game big or small in NA. Now what is not to like.
My 2c....Elky

If I was to start from scratch?

.204 Ruger for Varmints
.257 Wby for all deer sized game, maybe elk
8mm Rem. Mag. all larger game

If I am using what I already have

7.62x39 short range deer and down
.270 Win for pretty much everything
.30-06 Sprg for huge bears/moose

6.5x47
300 Win Mag
338 EDGE
The 6.5 is good out to 600 or so yards on deer size game. Then the 300 WM takes over out to 1000 and beyond that it will be the EDGE.
