I managed to find a israeli sighthood for my wifes Israeli k98. Anyone have advice how to re-rivet it? I have looked at close ups of sighthoods still riveted into place and it just looks like a length of tube with the ends flattened, which I have no idea how to even begin doing.

I am very suspicious that the Israeli's just cut the head off a nail stuck it through and 'bumped' both ends out .... they werent exactly trying to build 'Holland and Holland' grade rifles

I am a little confused OP, are you trying to return to WW2 German or Israeli ? The 7.62 Israeli rebuild would (as you have noted and researched) have the tube like rivet holding the sight hood on. I think a simple roll pin with the ends nipped off would look very close to "Israeli original".
