Poor vision and Red Dot sights

Hi Folks, thought I would share my experience in regards to red dot sights. My vision has deteriorated with age, to the point I now wear glasses for distance. The problem when shooting arises as my glasses bring the target into focus, however the sights become out of focus or vice versa when I remove my glasses. I recently purchased a red dot sight which cured the problem. I wear my glasses and the red dot remains in focus (because its a dot). Have had some great results on the range. Would recommend anyone with similar eyesight issues try out a red dot sight in their local store.

Same boat here.
Put a red dot on my S&W M&P .22 and I'm shooting about 35% better.
Looking for conversion kits for my other pistols and looking forward to the Sig P320RX and hoping for an M&P2 C.O.R.E.

Getting old really sucks.

Yeah, me too - haven't mounted up to any handguns yet, but I've put a decent red-dot on my "fun gun", a Just Right 9mm carbine - made a real difference right out to about 75 yards (no magnification on this red dot) and right up close as needed, and I don't have to squint or move my head around to try to catch the right optic point in my eyeglass lenses - a few of the other guys at the range used to kid me about that up 'til I told 'em "just wait until you hit your dotage and have to do the same thing" LOL.:slap:

O.N.G.

To shoot a handgun with iron sights, I must wear prescription shooting glasses. Sights are clear, target isn't. With a reflex sight, I can wear my progressives, dot and target are clear.

Ah. Red blur sights. The only one I've been able to use are Eotech. Even then the dots are a bit "out of round". A friend's C-more sight is just a streak with a brighter smear in the center. Aimpoints are pretty little stars as are the TRS -25's. Haven't had a chance to check out a Holosun or Vortex. Astigmatism sucks.

Auggie D.

Sounds like you have the same problem as me. Astigmatism. If that's the case, no reflex style red dot will be useable for you. A holographic sight may be better. They aren't for me. The only ones I can use are prism sights. You can try polarized glasses and see if that helps.

You're not supposed to close one eye when using a red dot, right...?

I close my left eye most of the time I use a magnifier.

I seem to have a slight astigmatism. It's most noticeable indoors, in the shape of star burst, but sometimes is gone when outside shooting. I also find polarized glasses/sunglasses can clean it up.

I like my Holosun HS515CU Red Dot the best so far.

I got garbage eyes as well and I'm in my 20s. When I shoot anything with a scope civi side I usually focus the sight so it's like wearing glasses anyways and it solves my issues there, same with NVGs, but red dots and some irons give me issues.
Just gets annoying putting glasses on and off.
