Sig P226 X Five SO vs Allround (and maybe LDC)

Hello everyone,

Newbie here from Toronto. Finally got into the sport last year and have been digging the forum everyday since. Currently own a Glock 17 (my dream gun as a kid).
While still taking baby steps in shooting, I've decided to purchase a second handgun just to see how different the feel would be. Of course, justifying myself that I need two handguns to go to the range with my wife and shoot side by side =)

Here are the candidates and I honestly have no clue which one to take as I have no experience in shooting these pistols.
X Five SO, Allround and maybe LDC.

I understand that the Allround would be a great competition pistol along the road (SO being SAO), however, for some reason I'm more attracted to SO model. As a newbie, I'm not thinking of shooting competitively anytime soon.
Other than the SAO on the SO, are there any major difference between these two X Five models? So being all steel and Allround having S.Steel finish won't matter much for me.

Any input or recommendation would be appreciated. This pistol will mainly serve me as a personal reference (standard) for many pistols to come in the future.

I love all X5s. If you like the SO version, go for it. It will be a great shooter.

Both are stainless, just that the SO is nitron coated. Both models have features I like. I much prefer adjustable sights for a target range gun as on the Allround, but like the magwell on the SO. You can add those extras to either gun btw and they are coincidently for sale on EE right now. The Allround is not the competitor it once was. CZ and Tanfoglio dominate it (those are other cheaper options to consider). Anyway you'll be happy with either X5 but usually safer to go with your initial preference or you may regret down the road.
 
Are you a member at a club ? I have s x5 entry in 40 cal and I am just waitin for my super match in 9mm to come in. If you are ever out Burlington way you can try them

Unless the point is the enjoyment of informally shooting. All about perspective.

OP, go with the SO if that's the one that caught your eye first. However, I recommend looking for a model with the adjustable SAO trigger; it is worth the extra.
 
All excellent choices! I love the SAO SIGs, so I would likely go with the SO. Be advised there are actually two versions of the SO, one all stainless, one with an alloy frame. I assume the one you are considering is likely the all stainless. Also the SO comes with rather plain two dot sights now(gen 1 Tactical had night sights). Germany has banned night sights I read somewhere.

Those gen 2 (Enhanced) X-Fives are absolutely gorgeous guns!

Can't go wrong with a Sig but you should line up a way to try one before you dump $1500-2500 on a pistol, unless you buy it used so you can reclaim your money if it's not for you. My massive number of trades so far has mostly been trying to find what fits me best, and so far it's the Sig Legion SAO. You can get them brand new from IRG for $1500 cad. So used probably around 1200. Has the X5 contour grip with excellent sights and an incredible trigger.

Thanks for your input. Yeah, the adjustable sight is the major attraction for me toward the allround. As you said, initial preference plays a big role even long after the purchase.

I'm actually on a wait list for the Burlington Club and trying to make time to drop by for the safety course hoping to see a spot open for that day. Trying out at a club would be the best way to choose. Thanks for the offer and I'll drop you a line whenever I get in =)

Agreed.

Eventually, I will be competing at some level. It's just that for now, I want to get used to couple of my own pistols to set up my own standard. I used to shoot air rifles at olympic shooting range for competition and the good memory is what actually bringing me back to this sport.

Thank you! I'll probably go with the SO as there aren't many options when it comes to X5s, however, still looking until the last minute.

The one I'm considering should be the all stainless model. I'm not experienced enough to have a firm preference when it comes to sights and triggers, however, SO falls into my 'more than enough' zone it seems. Thanks for the input!

Legion SAO was one of the final considerations. Agree that jumping into something expensive that I really don't know is a risky move, maybe something to think about 'till the last moment. Thanks
 
The Legion SAO is a very nice pistol but based on my experience the trigger has definitely not been as good as the X5 adjustable trigger.

OP - Make your decision primarily on the type of action you want. Single action only or SA/DA. As Gdawg mentioned earlier you can customize the odd part here and there. So if you decide to buy the SO and want adjustable sights you can add them.

As for the line about newbs buying expensive pistols buy once cry once or go through a few and spend more to eventually get what you want. It's your money so your choice. One thing to keep in mind is that these higher end pistols hold there value reasonably well so if you buy one and use it for awhile, then sell, you shouldn't take a bath on it.
 
Eagle Hunting in Vancouver has an X5 Short & Smart. Has the adjustable trigger but fixed sights. May be worth a look.
