Must have items for a new gun owner?

More thanks for the replies everyone!

Are there any shooting courses/trainers anyone would personally recommend near Vancouver? I have looked a little online at Silvercore's courses as they are who I took my cfsc/crfsc through. I found the course very good and the instructors great but the class had about 30 people in it. It wasn't a problem in that case but I think I would like more one on one with an instructor for actually learning fundamentals and technique.

I'm interested to hear what miscellaneous items the members here consider must-haves. Are there books, tools, stands, cases, supplies, etc... that you consider essential? Any information, be it a recommendation, tips, hacks, or things to steer clear of, appreciated.

Funny sarcastic comments also encouraged!

Gun safe and trigger locks. Safe storage is an absolute must. I also like carbon fibre cleaning rods.

Find some older guys to mentor you, on shooting, reloading, hunting, trust me when I say it's a lot easier than trying to learn on your own.
