So I am wanting to shoot these 85gr bullets that I can pull from some 7.62x25. Anyone have an experience with doing so? I only have H335 and H4198 at the moment so I would prefer using either of those powders.

I've tried searching around but had trouble finding what I was looking for.

To be honest, I'm not really sure what I'm trying to achieve...just playing around with what I've got on hand. Not sure if I'll end up loading more than a handful to play with

What about pulling the bullets from the x25, and just Mexican matching some surplus x39? Keep the x39 powder charge, and just swap bullets?

Due to the new bullet being lighter, I'd think that it would be a safe swap??

I've used Hornady's 110gr FMJ bullets in some of my reloads, can't remember the load but I will say that I don't remember them shooting well. Only tried a couple different loads though, will have to try it again sometime. I'd say go for it, might be interesting. Start on what you think is the lower end (for an 85gr bullet) and work up just in case. If you do it, let me know how it goes! I suspected when I had poor results with the 110gr that it may have been too light a bullet, but at the same time I may have been driving it too fast. Gonna be building a couple ARs in 7.62x39 so will have to try it again!

I've been busy trying to find a decent load with my 123gr .312" FMJ bullets from Western Metal, but I will get to the 85gr rounds at some point.

On another note, I've had 1/2" groups with .308" 110gr Sierra HP rounds (23gr H4198), so I don't think the light weight is an issue.

Hmm interesting. A while ago I got like literally seven bullets that I believe were some sort of .312 pistol bullet. I think. Can't remember the load but they startlingly (to me at that time) grouped pretty darn well at 50 yards, four or five in about one hole I think. Again, if I'm remembering correctly. So I'd be tempted to try Hornady's 85gr and 100gr .312 XTP bullets sometime. At what distance did you get your 1/2" group at? Also, if you ever find some cheap powder somewhere (which is hard) I would recommend maybe trying some slower burning stuff, it might work well. I've used 748 and slower to some success.

Yeah, I've had a few people suggest trying some slower burning powders which I will do when I'm done with my current load development. So far, I haven't had any luck with my .312" 123gr rounds so I will wait until then before trying any other bullet choices. All my rounds are shot at 100yards

I don't see why not. Mexican match surplus x39 would be easiest way to go. It should also cycle the action if you shoot them out of SKS.

I use IMR4198 for my x39 brass load. 23.5 grain with Hornady Vmax 123gr produce very good accuracy.

On a side note, are you replacing the projectiles on x25? I've been thinking about replacing them with 32cal pistol bullets to pass the magnet test at my local range.
