Which one to get. Decisions decisions;) Price wise they are pretty close. The 85 comes in various twist rates the Annie doesn't........thoughts:)

For what it's worth, I'd take the Sako, although I'm a big fan of the Anschutz rimfire rifles. The newer Anschutz CF rifles, like the 1771, have the bolt lock up in an insert installed in the barrel. Perhaps a manufacturing compromise. However, it pretty well rules out rebarreling or truing the action the way you could with a standard action in which the locking-lug recesses are in the action. This manufacturing detail is not unique to the new Anschutz CFs, but is, at least in my opinion, less desirable than the more usual design with the bolt locking up in the action.

Another negative for me of the 1771 is aesthetic. The removable magazine extends about 1/2" below the belly of the stock, and not only looks pretty awful (at least to my eye), but also would seem to get in the way of a comfortable hold on the rifle while carrying it in the hand.

Finally, although the Anschutz 5097D single-stage trigger on the 1771 is a very-decent trigger (adjustable down to about 2.25 lbs.), you can order the Sako M85 Varmint model with the really-nice set trigger option. This trigger will function in non-set mode over about the same weight-of-pull range as the Anschutz, but the set feature--allowing a let-off of a few ounces--is really a great option, and would, I believe, be right at home on a varmint rifle.

Hey South Pender, I love the Annie also being that I own a beautiful 1712. After a bit or research, I'm leaning towards the Sako. I'll try to find an older 75 in 6ppc but they seem rarer than hens teeth. Failing that, Sako's stainless laminate varmint sure would fit the bill:)

If you're looking for a 6 PPC (which I agree makes for a great varmint rifle), you'll find them on the L461 and A1 actions, as well as a few on the S491 action that was made between the A1 and 75 actions--all really fine actions. And some were made on the 75 action as well. I have a pair of A1 6 PPCs, and you do see them for sale from time to time. In fact, there's an A1 running in the Equipment Exchange right now under Precision and Target Rifles.

What is the difference between 1770 and 1771?

I can't find practically anything on 1771. Youtube has exactly like 1 video on 1770 and that is it.

Anschutz website does not even have a manual on 1771 )

1770 has the Monte Carlo stock, the 1771 has the German type. Maybe Nordic Markman can chime in.
