S+W sport 2: Where to go from here

This fore-grip should be about the right size. Cheap and effective.

As a new initiate, what makes something with no moving parts like that worth $200? The rifle itself is, after all, about 700 before tax.

They get more pricer than this one.But I agree mine (VIPER) was $35 and triggers can go up to 300 bucks and more along with stocks, uppers, lowers and it goes on and on...

Personally, I'd get a whole bunch of LAR15 mags and a decent red dot (like the bushnell Trs25) to start with. Then after going through a 1000 rounds, talking to other AR owners, cleaning your AR and really understanding how an AR works you'll figure out what to change and what to keep.

Most of the mods are personal preference. In IMHO, the M&P is a good quality AR so you could end up keeping all the parts that came with it and call it a day.

I see some of the TRS25 on amazon with different risers. How high am I looking to lift it off the rifle?

I picked up an MOE grip. Not a fan of the A2. Seriously considering the CMMG drop in .22 bolt. My home range doesn't allow center-fire rifle cartridges. I was also thinking about a primary arms 2.5x AR red dot. Over and above mags and ammo of course. Still have at least a week for the transfer to go through

I'm of the camp that the only needed accessory is expanded magazines. ARs are famed for their furniture but I don't find any of it really necessary. Accouterments can easily go from being beneficial to a shooter's experience to change for change's sake. The Sport II is a solid platform that I don't think really needs much in addition. As some others have said, put rounds through the gun first before thinking you need to "jump in" with remodeling. I've seen some YouTube videos that stress "Well, what you need to do is spend $3000 in added barrels and tools to make it good" that seem more like catering to their sponsors than providing needed advice.

It's a great gun at an amazing price point for Canada. Learn the gun, examine yourself and your habits before thinking it needs reworking. Unless you just want a show pony, then feel free to slap whatever you can find on it.

A ton more money for a dinky non-QD riser, given that the TRS25 can be had for $109! There are any number of risers available for cheap...

I don't care if he orders it from that vendor, or if he finds one cheaper.

I'm just showing him the optic height he will need for an AR-15.

Many people who are new to the AR platform will mount their optic way too low.
And then they'll struggle to get a next to impossible cheek-weld with it, and find it extremely difficult to shoot.

I just want to save him that aggravation.

(P.S. The picture that you posted has the optic way too low.)

they are available on Amazon right now for 129.99 with the high mount, i ordered one and added the med riser mount as well so i could play with it and see which one i like best
