I took the factory 14.5 barrel off my AR and replaced it with a 10.5. Now I'm having issues. If I'm lucky I can get 2 rounds off before this happens. I have tried 4 different brands of mags with the same result. On advice from a local gun plumber I tried taking off a few coils from my buffer spring and that didn't help. Also on the last round it will not lock open but if I manually work the action it will.
I'm sure it's an easy fix I'm just not sure what it is.

not enough info here

is it ejecting the fired casing?
is that the fired casing in the breech?

for starters get a new buffer spring whoever told you to cut the spring needs a slap in the face (S&J sell chrome silicone springs they are the best)

and im going to agree that there isn't enough gas making it to the carrier to cycle the bolt

recheck the gasblock for alignment

also check your gas rings on your BCG to make sure you don't have an exhaust leak.

if you are still having problems after that you may need to open the gas port up on the barrel

If you determine it's not a gas block problem, it could possibly be a m4 feed ramp concern as well. Check out the link below:

Hmm...I wonder if the bolt and carrier are cycling too fast for the fresh round to move up into the correct position to get chambered. Maybe a heavier buffer?
