So I'm looking around for brass for the 300rum. About the only thing I can find is Hornady at $125/20 count. I took some economics in university way back in the day but I'm still at a loss to explain how I can buy a box of 20 precision hunter eld-x and several other brands of pre-rolled for $100. Is the RUM nearly dead? Any thoughts?

A good deal used to by the Remington managed recoil stuff with the 150gr corelokt. Take it apart and "cheap" brass.

Mine went down the road a long time ago. 300 wby does almost the same for $2 a piece of brass and when paying $4 or more a piece of brass, the answer is 338lm.

Some Weatherby cartridge are cheaper than the brass. It s also a common thing with Nosler ammo.

For your other question, if the 300 RUM isn't dead it's sure seems
to be awful sick. Brass is nearly non existant except for Nosler, and it seems like that section of the ammo counter always has a gap there.
I think that many owners realized that there's a lot of recoil and noise for not much gain. Seldom see one at the range anymore , it's like people have found reasons to not shoot them .Another thing; by my experience, if you actually do shoot the thing you won't have it long. My barrel didn't last 600 rounds.

Its definitely not dead per say. Its one of the most popular chamberings in the custom rifle world. In the off the shelf Remington 700 world maybe it is not so popular due to the cost of running one. Your best bet is to find some Remington premium boxed ammo. I found some pwr lvl 3 loaded with A-Frames for 80 a box and loaded up- then just make sure you treat the brass well, anneal every 3 loadings etc. Also, Remington was selling Brass 50ct bags for like 75 bucks. I managed to score a couple of those a while back. You are just going to have to hunt for it.

So far I haven't come across any Remington ammo. I'm going to stick with the Hornady for now. I have a spare 300wm barrel thats going to go on as soon as I shoot the RUM out. Hopefully things will change because I'm finding the caliber really easy to load. I'm no fan of recoil but it's my best shooting rifle.

Such strange pricings are not only for the 300RUM. Take a look at .223. Once can buy 1000 rounds of pre-rolled brass, boxer primed, PRVI-PPU FMJ for around $450. One can also find new PRVI-PPU brass for around $45 per 100. Umm, duh? $0.45 each only one is ready to go and the other is empty. Buy the pre-rolled and shoot it. Then it is ready to go for your rifle for the next 20 or more reloads. PRVI brass is pretty decent stuff in my books. I think one can do something similar with PPU .308 offerings.

At any rate, buy some pre-rolled 300RUM, shoot it, and now you have brass to reload.

About 100 fps over a 300 Win Mag with comparable bullet weight. Very marginal IMO.
