There's a number of Hornady things on sale at Cabelas.com. Even with the international shipping, it seems to pay off.

I placed my order on the phone and got the hornady lnl ap press, 9mm + 223 dies, and associated plates for about $750 cad shipped.

The press itself was just under $350 American (~470 cad) before shipping and tax.

Didn't seem bad considering the free bullets too.

Well, you're gonna get hit with taxes and handling costs by Canada Post when it gets delivered unless you shipped it to a US border postal service and drive over and pickup. Good price though seeing as the press alone in Canada is around $675. before taxes.

I'm hoping all the shipping fees are in upfront. They charged:

$3.50 brokerage
$23 s+h
$8 oversize shipping
$61.25 taxes and duty

Total:
$95.75 usd taxes /shipping /duty. (~130 cad)

Maybe Canada post will still surprise me with something. Hopefully not.

Candian Customs will prob charge you the GST and a additional fee of $10 or so to fill out the paper work to charge you the GST

If they charged all that upfront, you should be good to go. I've ordered stuff from a couple US online stores where they charged me brokerage/shipping/tax upfront and got delivered to my door with no surprises.

Edit: Looks like someone broke the Cabelas.com website. It's down now. lol

Once you get your tracking number, call the carrier and confirm its DDP (Deliver Duty Paid)

From your charges above, they've clearly charged you the HST and duty already.

The numbers don't add up. Customs charges tax on the US amount converted to Canadian dollars. HST on 750.00 is 97.50 There should be no duty charge other than brokerage as it was made in the USA.

Subtotal $471.19
Shipping & Handling $22.95
Shipping Surcharge $8.00
Taxes & Duty $61.25
Fees (Broker) $3.50
Total $566.89

471.19 *0.13 HST = 61.25

Then convert to CAD

Seems to add up.

let's hope that the "Free Bullets" is a coupon because they won't ship bullets across the border due to ITAR iirc...

It's their "get loaded 2017" promotion. Yes it's a coupon. You still cover shipping.

I'm looking at 700 free bullets for this order.

And you better pray they are not going to ship with ups because brokerage will be substantially more than $3.50 in that case

Cabela's shipping FAQ's page indicates taxes and duties for shipments to Canada are paid up front with the brokerage fee. Ive got my fingers crossed.

More than likely you are in the clear, but I would play it safe and as soon as you get your tracking #, call UPS and make sure Cabelas pre-cleared it. If not, get back to Cabelas and have them fix that. Shipping clerks can forget to check that box sometimes especially if the majority of their daily shipments are domestic.

That's probably prudent. Thanks.

You are calculating HST on US dollars, thats not how it is done. Convert the total without tax in US dollars to Canadian dollars, then calculate the 13% HST on that.

All figures are invoiced in USD. The percentage does not change depending on the currency. The tax they charged me was 13%. This matches HST.

It doesn't matter if you convert the currency before or after applying tax for the purpose of calculating final payment in CAD. Its easier to do the conversion after because the brokerage fees and shipping are also in USD.

Skiman, you are not going to be charged addtional GST or brokerage no matter how it gets to you. Cabelas.com is the broker and has collected the tax.

Apparently there is a ton of people in this thread that have never ordered from them.

Probably the same people who like to insist Cabela's does not give free shipping promos on ammo. Even though they do. They refuse to even believe screen shots of the invoices lol!
