S+W sport 2: Where to go from here

For myself I picked up some mags... want to get a sling of some type... And trying to make up my mind on a red dot of some type... as for the rifle itself.. I will keep as is!

I've ran everything from irons, red dots, 1-4x, 1-6x, 3-9, 4-14.

For general range blasting i enjoy the 1-4 (burris MTAC), 1-6 or 1-6 (strike eagle). I do most of my shooting at 100 yards, so i enjoy the extra magnification. I also like to dial it down to 1 and blast stuff at the 25 and 50 yards. Having a little magnification is nice for me when ringing gongs @ 300 yds.

I use a 4-14x50 on my modern varminter, as this is the rifle I use for varmints and field blasting.

If you're not doing 3 gun, and dont mind a little extra weight I'd say go for a 1-4,1-6,1-8 (whatever your budget allows). This is just my personal preference however.

I just picked one up too and it is my first AR, so far so good. Will be looking at optics in the near future I think, be nice to know what works for you guys?

(P.S. The picture that you posted has the optic way too low.)

No it doesn't. A hair below absolute co-witness, and perfect with a nice solid cheek weld. For me, at least, and with that particular stock. I find the 'standard AR' lower 1/3 cowitness too high for a 'proper' cheekweld with that stock. I must have skinny cheeks.

I'm of the camp that the only needed accessory is expanded magazines. ARs are famed for their furniture but I don't find any of it really necessary. Accouterments can easily go from being beneficial to a shooter's experience to change for change's sake. The Sport II is a solid platform that I don't think really needs much in addition. As some others have said, put rounds through the gun first before thinking you need to "jump in" with remodeling. I've seen some YouTube videos that stress "Well, what you need to do is spend $3000 in added barrels and tools to make it good" that seem more like catering to their sponsors than providing needed advice.

It's a great gun at an amazing price point for Canada. Learn the gun, examine yourself and your habits before thinking it needs reworking. Unless you just want a show pony, then feel free to slap whatever you can find on it.

It's an ar-15 let's play dress up bro.

For @$200 on could replace the fore end, grip and stock with decent Magpul parts, I may go this route. Fore end so I can mount a light and sling attachment further back than the stock mount. The grip just feels awkward with my big hands, angle is also a bit steep for CQB. Stock with one that has a friction lock to prevent wiggle. However that coin could go towards a RDS too!

Lots of options to dress her up. :)
