Bear hide tanning / bear rug?

Where you guys to have your bear hide tanned in the GTA and what's the cost?

Been quoted $200 upto around $1000 don't really know what's the difference.
 
$295 a foot is probably measured from tip of nose to tip of tail. I'd be very suspicious of a $200 tanning job. if you want quality work you are going to need to pay for it I'm afraid. There is a lot of work and chemical agents involved for the degreasing and tanning stages. You can't just douse the hide with borax and get quality leather tanned through...unless you want a bug magnet you'll have to pony up the bucks.
 
You can probably get it tanned for under $300 if it's around a 6' bear. A rug, however is a different story. I've had my taxidermist do both to similar sized bears. The rug was $1400 and the tanned hide was $360.

Just a tanned hide actually makes a practical rug and is a lot more affordable.

OoD mag has an article this month about doing it yourself. Degrease it with dawn detergent and tan with readily available tanning solutions.
 
I have had green hides just tanned for $200. Sound about right
This is just tanned with the eyes ears and mouths turned so when you save up the rest of the money depending on the size you can subtract the $200 from the balance.

Readily available indeed, tanning solution is included. Never done a Baer but everything else I've done, as well im sure most animals come with their own tanning kit.
