Hi all,
I have been looking around and they seem to be VERY rare. Does anybody have an idea where I can find one ( in real good shape of course)? I know there is one in the EE now but it is customized. I am looking for one in original format.

Thanks

Gilbert

You should state which model you are looking for, repeater or single shot and what caliber. They have never been
cheap to purchase and there is the wait time of about 18 months or more.
I have a few of them that I bought about 20 years ago, the repeaters are in McMillan stocks and the single
shot ones are in wood.

I got lucky on here a few years ago by putting up a wanted to buy add. I ended up getting a real nice original Heavy barreled 40x from a member on here and have been very happy with it.

Keep looking they are very rare here in Canada.

Good luck

Yes, I should have stated that I am looking at a single shot , bull barrell in .22lr.
Thanks

Gilbert

I got very lucky to get mine friend of a friend kind of thing. Stupid accurate and it's nice to be able to mount 700 rails and triggers as everything for a 700 fits.

You may even want to check Gunbroker(USA) or GunsAmerica with the anticipation of importing through a broker

Remington Custom Shop hasn't produced the rimfires for several years

Or you could flood the canadian market with the 27 of them your hoarding........I mean you only shoot one at a time right...........

Gilbert, I agree with dryfire. You won't find many 40X rimfires for sale in Canada, but you'll find several at any one time on the big US sites: Gunbroker, Guns America, and Guns International. You can complete the sale through one of the guys here (like Prophet River Firearms) who look after importing. The importing fee will add something on the order of $250 to the cost, and there will be additional shipping costs (from seller to US FFL holder; from US FFL holder to Canadian importer; from Canadian importer to you). And, of course, there's the miserable exchange rate on our dollar. So, you will be able to locate one, but expect to pay plenty for it. Of course, if you want one in a reasonable time (importing will probably take 2 months give or take) and are prepared to pay, this might well be preferable to waiting a couple of years (or more) until one appears in Canada.

I literally found one on this site from my tagline 3 weeks ago. Remington 40XR .22lr in synthetic stock. Heavy barrel, very good shape and hardly ever shot. Came with a Leupold 6.5-20 vx3. $820 shipped :) Came with bipod also but whos bragging...

I love that the XR has the factory 24 inch barrel vs the 28. The cmp? u.s. trainers were generally shot quite a bit vs factory bought XR's being new. I sold my Winchester 52 as I did not like the big 28 inch barrel.

Rarely if ever see that model. Could you post a pic or two of your rifle. Greatly appreciated !

I got one off the EE about 18 month ago. It's a 40-XB, big fat prone stock and a 28" HB. I helped Toolman land his, I actually had the option of buying it when I purchased my XB. It ended up going to a member here in Saskatchewan, I ended up chatting with him about it off and on. He mentioned he was willing to part with it and I got Toolman involved. In exchange for this monumental show of friendship, Toolman had my name tattooed across his lower back.

I suggest you get set up on Gunbroker as mentioned, and get Prophet River to do the import. I scored a 452 Varmint in 17M2 and had PR do the import and it was blazing fast and extremely painless.

You change your meds again?

For those interested in the 40X action, you might want to read Bill Calfee (The Art of Rimfire Accuracy, pp. 25-29) on these actions. He raises some interesting points.

You must have very chilled-out neighbors! lol You wouln't want to take photos like that where I live! :) Stunning rifle, and I dig the scope too. I have a soft spot for those old B&L.

As for how/where to get one of these~like others have said, they pop-up in the EE with some degree of frequency. Also, the "have your $ ready" is also good, as is posting a WTB ad. Check the EE daily anyway, and keep an eye on sites like GunBroker in the US. Check with Clay (@ Prophet River) to see about importing, the $ of that, etc. I had Clay bring a shotgun barrel up for me, totally painless..and fairly-priced process.

Update to all,
I have finally decided to buy the customized 40X that was on the EE a few days ago. It is not in original state as it is wearing an aftermarket barrell but it is a 40X rimfire action. I can always find a blued barrel that will fit it if I ever decide to restore it, I guess.

Thanks all for your replies

Gilbert
