So bought a Benelli MR1, been looking at them for a couple years and a good deal came along so grabbed it. Now primary use will be a coyote rifle, secondary will be 3 gun (not holding my breath with the pencil barrel).
I am looking for input on those that have done mods and like or dislike them. In terms of ergonomics I don't mind too much as it runs a lot like a hybrid AR/AK and we live in Canada and I have a full range in my back yard so it is what it is.

List of things to get done off the bat:
-Back sight already removed, need to flip the rail still.
-When I have the cash I'll buy an ATRS rail.
-mag selection, what 5rd hunting mags work and what 10rd ones feed reliably.
-barrel cut and thread with break installed (could use advice on this).
-ammo test, hunting and then cheap competition ammo.
-sling attachments and options.
-modifying stock for better cheek weld
-practice practice practice.

Already have a Vortex 1-6pst gen 2 (thanks NAS) on the way so all the blame is on me or the gun now. I know I'm late to this discontinued party but I honestly like this gun and am excited to take on this fools quest. Any and all input welcome that's not why didn't you buy a Tavor or MV there where many reasons other than cost that I didn't go those routs.

Black LAR-15 mags, like the ones sold at Bullseye London, don't feed well. Grey LAR-15 mags work great.
MFT 10RD mags work well.
PCV Beowulf work well but you need to sand the top sides a bit before they drop empty.
I bought a Magpul QD mount and installed it on the buttstock, with another on the front tri-rail you can buy for $70.
I had the PEPR Burris mount with 1-4x24 scope on it but just moved it to the AR last week.

Ammo coming in for testing

MFS 55g soft point / 0.6 a shot after tax
MFS 62g hollow point / 0.39
MFS 55g hollow point / 0.38
Federal Black BTHP / 0.85

Any others I should add? I'd like something I can use for yote and smaller as well as competition so I don't have to re adjust my scope each time. I don't reload yet and will be awhile before I invest in it so keeping brass doesn't matter to me. Once I see what these options do I'll bring in a case or two of 1000

Can confirm the 10 round MFT mags work well.

I also use the Burris PEPR mount. Works well.

Currently I'm using Fiocchi 55 GR FMJ and it seems to like it. I haven't played around with different grains/bullet types as of yet though.

I had one and it was laser-gun accurate. The build quality was outstanding. I found it to have a real weird take-down that was not conducive to field stripping in anywhere other than your man-cave. The ergos were strange to say the least. It either liked certain mags or hated them. I found STANAG was the only way to go.

Lol was it stormtrooper laser accurate??? The best part of a Benelli is I have never had to field strip one, not saying this is the same as their shotguns but I clean mine once ever 2 months, I find they run better dirty, I'll shoot mine the day before a comp and leave it as is because then when I pick it up tomorrow I know it's gonna run the same as it did when I put it down. An AR for all the good things there are about them it's a dirty gun that doesn't like dirt so it had to be easily broken down.

Thanks for the heads up Zen, I will give that a try I do have a shotgun brush.

Comrade Vlad: no I will not be devaluing my guns like that, I would build up the cheek weld long before pulling a dremmel out lol.

Only the LAR mags with angled bottoms are too tight for the mag well of My MR1. All others work fine.

Don't forget your bayonet!

For all those bayonete 3 gun stages lol? Wow that has to kill accuracy in that pencile barrel I would assume. Good to here the mags are all pretty good, I'm not a guy that needs them to drop free atleast, I have a pretty violent mag change on the field. Lol too much Art of the Dynamic rifle for me.

Thanks for all the tips guys good to see there are still liked by some, this and the scope will be here probably Tuesday or wed and I'll get to start setting it up.

Anyone seen the Cabelas customer review pic with the barrel heat shield on the guys?

If you've got the fixed stock, I would consider modifications to adjust the length of pull. I've heard that Supernova stocks can be fitted, the adjustable ones are the nicest. You could also shorten the fixed "urbino" style stock and/or switch out the inexplicably chunky recoil pad. Get that ATRS rail ASAP! Cantilever scope mounts that jump the rear sight are too high, and eye relief will be long. If you want to shoot with irons, I suppose you could use a shotgun ghost ring that sits low on a picatinny rail. Something like the Mossberg ones. Enjoy!

PS I like these rifles so much, I had 2 at one point. One was Saskcop's!

Should have mentioned it is the adjustable stock I have coming. The ATRS rail is nice by the quick free fix is removing the back sight and flipping the rail backwards, gives you all the room you need. Not ideal but have mags, tri-rail, and other pieces to buy first. Not to mention Ammo lol.
