My friend and I have come across a Ruger P944 and are trying to determine a fair value for it?
Not much info or availability on it? Used value listed at approx $350usd would that equate to around the
$475 cdn mark? It's in very good shape with less than 500 rounds through it.
Let me know what you guys and gals think.

That's the .40 version, right?
I say your guess is in the ball park. I would say more $425-$450.

You don't see many of the P85 derivatives nowadays as they are fairly utilitarian and chunky guns with a heavy trigger.
Also .40 is not as popular as 9mm for the resale market.

I've got the P91 40 cal, which looks like the P89 9mm and the P90 45acp. I have all these three (actually have 2 x P89) and my favorite is the P91 because it is fitted so tightly that it shoots my reloads (own cast Lee truncated cone 180 grain bullets) standing offhand, into 2 inches at 15 meters.

These P-series aluminum framed pistols are under-rated in my opinion and because I know how good these pistols are, I would value them around $500 plus shipping. However, I am probably one of the few fans of these Ruger pistols. I have seen them in the last 12 months, around the $400 mark on the EE.

A-man brother. They are underrated which is why they are in the $400 range. Should be higher but they are not. My minty p89 was $400 new in 89 and should have appreciated but sadly it did not. It is a fantastic pistol because of what you get for that price point. Stainless slide, cast aluminum alloy frame and I have not yet counted the parts but in its day it was advertised as having the fewest parts of any of the Browning 1911 offshoots e.i. High Power, CZ, Tokarev, etc. Don't shoot mine much but from my experience it has been very reliable and like the Ruger revolvers, pretty tough. Don't know much about the 40, I shoot 9 because I am a broke SOB.

i also like the Ruger P series.
my first pistol was a Ruger P89 and its still upstairs in the safe.

nice ambi pistol.

Agreed. I traded off my P944 years ago as it didn't fit my hand well....always regretted it. Loved the look of that gun with the streamlined slide. As luck would have it I've been selling off my handguns due to finances but I just stumbled onto a mint, as new in box P85 mk2 with a serial dating it to 1992. Just arrived in the factory box with the original stocking label from the same shop. The list price back then was $100 more than what I paid also! After stripping it it looks absolutely unfired, no wear marks of any kind anywhere!! With the current climate against legal owners in this country I forked out cash I didn't have because it may be my last purchase for some time. Glad it found me.
To answer the OPs question, I bought my P944 about 9 years ago for $485 shipped. I traded it off for a value of about $450. Today I would pay $500 for one in mint shape but that's because of personal nostalgia. I would expect most folks here wouldn't go higher than $425. Great gun but I didn't find it suited to .40. My G22 feels much better shooting .40.
