I rekon this guy had been walking around these hills longer than I have been sniffing around in them (hunting)

I seen him on a Trail Camera two years ago, never thought id find it, but yesterday luck had it as I stalked into the Same wallow...

making my way I ran into him as he was above me 50meters further along the ridge, he was curious and unsure, giving me enough time to strike a deal..

Nice OLD mature Sambar.
shot from appx 60m , upward with 7mm-08 140gr Woodleigh, neither projectiles exited but penetrated well.

And this Morning I met a mate at a Spot X just off the HWY and snuck up a Gulley system, Lucky but unlucky, I shot the Second hind in a group, the 3rd Ended up being Another Solid Stag, was unable to fire on a clear picture as he burst off.... but a last day hunt for a group of Hunters meant if Brown take it Down, and mum got her much needed Dog meat :D

Congrats great looking animal. How do you like the 140 gr Woodleigh in the 7mm-08 Im planning on giving them a try.

i always heard that you need a 338 or 375 cannon for the sambar, how come that you dare using the mini gun ...

anyway congrats on the hunts seems you have a lot of fun ....

Gday Medved, I just finished a PM briefly explaining how those Roumers became Gospel for a few years in Australia, an echoed around the world.. ha ha

and Coincidently I had been out in the Bush with a well known Youtuber and a couple of hes mates, they bought down an array of rifles, my friend a 7mm08, a Ranger from the NT bought down a 308 and the 'complience" officers from NSW were holding onto 300 Win mags..

one of the guys with 300 win mags had shot at 3 Sambar this week, he found 1. Using some Monometal an almost Home made from what I gathered, but was suppose to be good at long range- I don't think so...

So one of the Main reasons this roumer is around is because 95% of first time hunters will take the Traditional "Walk them up" way of hunting, Which gets you real close and up their Ass at times, then the Deer will burst out unaware and You then try to fire... an try to connect.

many old guys would of used a 308 and had them 'soak it up' so hence the 338 win mag and 375 hh have been known as "great sambar stoppers" , not to mention 45-70 in closer scrub.

Ive found the better of a Stalker ive become, the more I know about the Deer the more often I am shooting at them Unaware of me, or not Stressed high on alert anyway, So ive gone from 35 Whelens to a favourite .270winchester, an now evnded up with a 7mm08 and it puts them down, Not emphatically !! - but you put it in a Vital blood/air tank and its not far away.

STAG- are all the above- tough , strong willed.... thick hide.

the deers get away because of a pill going in an the entry hole getting covered by fur an such keeping the animal to slowly fill up with blood, rather than run out of blood..

So a lot of scenerios..

POI- with the Big cals .. Break shoulders.. with the little cals (270/708) behind the shoulder and have faith in your bullet selection eh.

HTH, I could write about it all day I rekon, but I end up in circles.
