Hello everyone.
I'm new to this site, this is my first post.
I am getting my first handgun, I have a hard time choosing though. After weeks of research I have it narrowed down at least. The Ruger 9e, Walther ppx, Sig Sauer p250, and a surplus Beretta 92s. The two front runners are the walther and sig. I'm on a budget as you probably noticed. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions? Thank you!

Welcome. Go with what you like best. Everyone and anyone has an opinion but in the end it is your own that matters most. Think twenty years down the road and ask yourself, which handgun would you be proud of to call your first.

Quality, IMHO

1) Walter or Sig similar
2) Beratta
3) Ruger

But if you can get your hands on them, the best one is the one you feel he best handling.
Well then there is the price!

I picked up the ppx and used it for my idpa Intro course. I like it, price vs quality was nice but the feel was the deciding factor.

The reality is that you need to get your hands on each and see how they feel. I just couldn't get a comfortable grip on a g17 or 19, m&p9 was ok but the ppx fit very well.

It's really hard to get handguns in my area without ordering them in. I read that the ppx is comfortable for most hand sizes, mine are medium sized. Thanks for all the advice!

I've got Glock, Beretta, Sig, CZ and soon to have the new m&p 2.0 in .45 (got it for 559 too! Too good of a deal to pass up so I figured why not)

All have been great for me some have better ergonomics than others and it's really what you want it to do for you and either a lefty or righty and what fits your hands....

First one for me was a Glock 17c still have it and it was the first of many to follow.....

I like Garaldtao's call also.
Of the pistol's you picked, I would go PPX first as it has the range kit with it and a very acceptable trigger pull. Not the ###iest gun but good quality.
The SIG 250 is a double action only trigger gun and the pull is heavier. Not the best choice for starting to learn pistol fundamentals. The 320 is a way better choice but a bit beyond your price range quoted.
The Ruger is a newer gun based on the SR9 but cheaper. There are many fans of the SR9 but I don't know much about the 9E. As the SR9 isn't too expensive as guns go, I assume the 9E will be missing some features and not as good.
The 92S is a surplus gun and older with a heel button mag release. Not the best choice for training if you want a modern pistol as you will have to unlearn how to do a speed reload. It is great as a second or third gun but IMO, not as your first.

Smith & Wesson's new M&P 2.0 is a very good choice. I have seen them as low as C$599.99. New.

They went as low as $530's and some may still be available in the $550's.

To the OP:

I have the 9E and I love it. In fact I own two! It's one of the thinnest double stack polymers available and I have no problem wrapping my girlish sized hands around the grip. It has a great trigger and is essentially a poor mans SR9.

I also have the new M&P9 2.0 and it's great too. If I had to choose one I'd pick the M&P because it's reasonably priced and well supported in the aftermarket.

As to your other choices:

PPX - Not bad.
P250 - I don't like the trigger at all.
92 - I hope you have gorilla hands.

That's just my opinion, YMMV.

You'd be wrong in making that assumption in reagrds to the 9E. The frame, and all its components, are exactly the same as the SR9 (including the trigger, which is great by the way). The barrel is the same as the SR9. The difference lies in the slide. Ruger saved money by machining fewer cutouts and applying a different finish. The 9E only comes with one magazine. Believe it or not that's about the only real difference between the two.

Thank you for the clarification 4n2t0. I've yet to see one so not familiar with them. You know what they say about assumptions...

No worries, we're all here to share.

In regards to assumptions...

I make my fair share of them so I know all too well what they say, LMAO.

Thank you for all the help. I think I will go with the walther ppx. All of them come in a range kit it seems, are there any available with just the pistol? Thanks again!

I have the PPQ M1 as one of my first pistols, and I love it. Not much heft, but very comfortable grip and a nice trigger. I have smaller paws, so did not like the 92. Would also recommend most anything by sig. My 226 Mk25 is my favourite pistol.
Getting magazines for the PPQ has been a bit tricky at times, but easier I suspect for the PPX. You can't go wrong with Walther.

An excellent choice. I've had the range kit PPX for some time and I love it (see pic). Trigger pull is second to none. Recoil nearly non-existent. A very accurate pistol. The range kit comes with THREE Italian made mags which is a big plus. I've shot the whole spectrum of ammo brand: 115gr Barnaul, 115gr PPU (Privi Partizan), 124 gr Sellier$Bellot, 115 gr Western Metal reloads, 124gr FOC reloads, 115gr Blazer Brass and 115gr PMC Bronze without even one hiccup. It fits my large hands like a glove.
