Which scope would you choose?

Bushnell AR 3-9x or Nikon P-223 3-9x

To be mounted on an 18" AR

Looking to do 200m-300m shots at the range.

Not sure how much quality or reliability one would expect from scopes at that price range? ($250 - $270)

Thoughts?

I went with the bushnell, my buddy went with the Nikon. I have them both at my place right now and they are really comparable. If I had the option again I'd probably go for whichever is cheaper. No issue with either.

Good to know, thanks for the info

I was blown away at how clear the Bushnell is. I bought another right after. Got it mounted on my 700 sps 16" barrel and the mil dots work up to 500. (Range only goes that far but I am sure the duplex is 600 bang on)) I was hitting clays in the dirt at 500, not every shot. But a 12 inch gong every shot no problem and at 300 i was hitting dead center. . It's a great scope. I don't think you can go wrong with either one. I will say this. The bell on the AR scope is HUGE. Buis won't fit under it mounted onto a rail with a proper AR height mount. The flip side is it has a massive amount of eye relief.

The reticle would line up fine with an 18 inch barrel i am sure . Also. The Bushnell is a heavy scope.

The selling point for me was Bushnell has the adjustable parallax. But what almost made me go nikon was Bushnell AR optics have exposed turrets. You can rezero easily (Allen wrench privided) or just throw some tape on them. The reason I really don't care for these turrets is that it's a caliber specific scope. Once it's dialed in you never really need to touch them again. So for the price I give this scope 4 stars out of 5 the weight, large bell and exposed turrets are the only faults I see with it.

I didn't know about the relationship between reticle and barrel length. How does that work?

I think the Nikon p223 also has exposed turrets.

Anyways, thank you for your advice. I think I'm going to buy the bushnell

Barrel length changes velocity. 16 to 18 inch with 223 won't make a huge difference. You will get a bit more distance with an 18 inch.

Took the plunge and just ordered the Nikon. talked with a few guys at the range who have one or the other, personally I like the Nikon reticle a bit better, but they are comparable in reality.

And, you know, Nikon has that wicked app for calculating exact distance with level of zoom, makes things pretty easy
