6.5 Grendel in Canada

Hi all,

I'm looking at this stripped lower and find myself ready to embark on another project. Googling abound about 6.5 Grendel has me interested, but also has me believing that it's a bit too niche here in Canada.

Is 6.5 Grendel common enough for here in Canada? I mean parts for the build itself, and then reloading components (mostly brass I guess)?

Curious to hear opinions from anybody that actually has done a 6.5 Grendel build.

I was looking at a bolt action for my kids first Hunting rifle in 6.5g. Ammo at this point looks unavailable off the shelf. It can be imported thru a couple site sponsors. Prophet and irunguns. Reloading dies are available on amazon. Reloading components are out there as well it's just a matter of how much digging into various sites to find them you are willing to do.
 
I've been looking too and it's not very common. You can get reloading components and some off the shelf ammo like OCCAM mentions. There are more 6.5 Grendel guns coming into the country and even one being made locally, so hopefully it will get a little better.

On paper specs it's an amazing cartridge, I have the loading gear, but no xcr barrel I"m waiting, so no hands on yet. Hand loading will give you a nice diversity of options. Off the shelf, not so much.

BlackLeaf Industries in Calgary has access to OdinWorks 6.5 Grendel barrels; briefly considered going that route with my current AR build, but went with OdinWorks 300Blk components instead, including barrel, through BlackLeaf.
 
I love me some of the more obscure calibers, but I really don't really "get" the 6.5 Grendel. Can someone explain it to me so I can convince myself that I need one?
 
In my opinion, on an AR platform in Canada, there is no use for it. Now in a bolt gun or NR semi auto, it's a wonderful hunting and target round. Various bullet weights and designs, lower recoil and very accurate short and mini actions. Targets, varmints to big game.

Doesn't the need for proprietary parts negate any potential benefits over one of the .223 child cartridges?
 
Thanks for the feedback all. Sounds like 6.5 Grendel is a pretty rare beast in Canada. I'll turn my attention to something a bit more mainstream (probably a 14.5" 5.56).
 
Apparently rumour has it that a lot of ARs owned by our southern neighbours are being converted to 6.5CM. Don't know how popular the Grendel is down there.
