I picked one up used at the local shop, so far seems like a decent piece of kit.

Surprised these aren't discussed more. This one came with a drum and a stock mag, wish I could find more stock mags. I had the KP-31 sling already (it's longer than an M39 sling). I did change the stock for a decent finnish birch stock. It originally came to me with a pretty beat-up danish-issued M31 stock, apparently these were made on kits from both Finland and Denmark, and mine had a Danish stock installed by TNW, which didn't interest me. The danish stocks have a swivel on the butt, while the Finn ones have a sling bar, which I prefer.

Also, the barrel was pretty loose in the barrel shroud. When the finns issued these, they came with both shroud shims and barrel shims. Mine was missing some shims, but I got replacements from BRP guns and everything is now tight again.

I also pulled apart the trigger group and stoned the sear surfaces, so it's not a more manageable 6# pull, vs. the gritty 15# pull out of the box.

Anyone else have one of these? Thoughts?

I love mine. I have 8 extra stick mags, and would love to find some "coffin" mags. I know a guy, who knows a guy that tried a surplus barrel, and they fit nice and tight, despite the long one wiggling.
I've had an urge for some time to get a spare one, and make a pistol grip stock for giggles. (forgivable, I think, as long as I have a spare, and it can go back)

I have one. Recoil is tame with all the weight. What do these shims look like? Both my restricted and my long barrel are sloppy. It is neat how easy they can be changed.

This is something im certainly looking into getting some time soon. How much did yours run you Claven? What is the price range like on these ###y pieces of hardware?

I have a couple of them and I love them as well. They mostly get a bad rep for the weight, trigger pull, and anteater look with the nr barrel. I've got one of them apart right now going to the smith to get hot blued so I can have it looking proper
Would love to get some coffin mags but no one in Canada sells them maybe they can't be pinned or something

Some early ones had issues with the barrels reunion welds failing. That can be fixed though, and most that will fail will have already failed by now, in most cases. Apparently the later ones were better welded.

As for shims, Google brp guns and search for Suomi on their site. They ship the barrels and shroud shims to Canada.

Are you having it polished, or just bluing over a bead blast? Originals were fully polished.

I paid $600 in a local shop with a drum mag tossed in. Spent another $75 shipped to get a better stock for it. I likely paid under the going rate though.

Wanstalls has them for 779.99. I've been eyeing them but poor reviews have shied me away. You guys are saying those sold today would be of a better quality? What should I look for to confirm? https://www.wanstallsonline.com/tnw-kp-31-suomi-9mm-non-restricted.html

Anything sold new in a store now should be fine. The bad ones were in the 2012 and earlier timeframe. They had a different trigger mechanism, and earlier bolt design, dofferent type of bolt buffer, and trunion welds that didn't tend to hold up.

Or buy a used one that's been fired a bunch. If it hasn't failed yet, it likely won't fail.

Didn't the barrels fall off, due to some welding issues?
not my cup of tea, that's for sure.

where are you guys getting the stick mags??

Tradex used to stock them, but they are sold out currently. I'm interested if anyone knows of another current source, but I called Anthony and they thought they would be getting more. That was about 5 weeks ago, they are still listed as out of stock.

Google for the stick mags. Been awhile since I loaded up, but a Canadian retailer in the east, if I recall. best I can remember, it was not a site sponsor. They were not that expensive, either.

It's just getting a bluing over the bead blast. I did not know the originals were polished.
Regardless it will still be better then the parkerized finish that's on it now

The guns have gone up about $100 or more in the last year. $200 in the last two years. I was eyeing them up when they were retailing for $600 or $500-550 on the EE.

SFRC seems to replenish inventory including mags, more often then other vendors.
