Daughter prepares for shotgun-deer-season...20ga pattern testing with #3 buckshot.

So I was lucky enough to get out this weekend with my oldest. Her birthday is quickly approaching, and that means she will be legal to hunt deer this coming season...WOOHOO! She is as keen as I am, and what is even better is that her preference seems to be to come shotgun deer hunting in the awesome foothills deer season we have here in Alberta.

We figured we better get her shotgun squared away, so our previous range session was to investigate slugs and a bunch of different buckshot. She did not care for the slugs at all, so we tried out 4 different types of buckshot to see which one pattered best. After choosing the best one for her gun, we've moved on to getting to know her range limitations which is what her current episode is all about:

For whatever reason with slugs she could find acceptable accuracy past about 15 yards. We tried many different choke and rifled slug combinations and as that exercise unfolded her frustration mounted and we approached tear territory. Changing gears, we switched to testing out some buckshot loads and the smiles came back. We've had lots of discussion about making a clean kill and what that means from a pattern/range perspective; she's keen to enhance/earn her hunting experience by getting within our self-imposed limit of 30 yards.

I was wondering if it was the gun. Some just don't like slugs.

In this most recent one, I heard pattern, and range, but I missed hearing any mention of choke.
