Looking to upgrade the sights on a G20 atc gun. Anyone tried the big dot express sights? They sound like they would be good for close up fast shooting.

I've tried them, on the range, and found them to be too difficult to shoot with precision. I think you'll find that the trend is away from them.

I have them on my G19 and absolutely love them. I'm not likely to put two bullets through the same hole but for fast hits on an eight inch target they can't be beat.

In my case anyway, they trick my brain into focusing on lining the rear sight up with the front one, which is the opposite of what I do with traditional sights. I find it very effective.

I have BigDots on a couple of my pistols and I like them a lot. But I am not a bullseye shooter, so if pinpoint accuracy is important to you they may not be the best choice. XS also makes sights with a smaller front dot that you might want to look at...I have a set on my 1911 and they work perfectly for me.

I generally like 'dot-the-i' style sights much better than three-dot styles. It seems much more intuitive to line up two dots rather than try to align three. YMMV...

Good sights for rapid effective hits. The sights were meant for service not competition. Been shooting mine for years and find them to be excellent. A similar setup are he Trijicon HD sights which I also find to be excellent.

Which size of front sight do you use?

I have the standard dot on the front of one of my 1911's with a 10-8 Retro rear and the notch opened to .160", but I have wrecked eyes and need something very visible up front. I have no problem on an 8" plate at 25m with a 6 o'clock hold. They aren't for everyone to be certain, and if you can give them a test drive on someone else's gun prior to committing that would probably be best...

What is missing from the review and others like it is the use of big dots on moving targets or while moving yourself. Shooting at a stationary target and not under stress is one thing. Add in stress and movement and it gets a lot tougher. Big dots are not a competition sight they are a defensive/combat sight.
