Bought a 44 on a whim...having trouble affording to pull the trigger! I'm buying Winchester white box, which is the only local offering at $1.80/ round.

Does anyone sell reloads? This is a novelty gun, and I just want cheap until I can get myself into reloading in the future.

Just keep in mind that if you buy brass cased ammo you will have no problem recouping a good chunk of the costs by selling the brass in the EE

I have a box of 50 of 44 Rem Mag had gun for it but sold it. Where are you located? If ou are in Edmonton will give you a good deal

Reloading is the only answer for .44 Mag. I paid out my entire reloading set up in one season of reloading .44 Mag and 30-06 for my Garand. As a huge bonus, .44 Mag is a tremendously versatile cartridge that can be loaded down to pop gun levels for newbie range fun and all the way up to thermonuclear for huge fireballs and lots of amusement.

I'm having the same trouble. Just bought a S&W 629 Classic in .44 Magnum. The best price I found is PMC 44 MAG 240GR STARFIRE HP - CASE OF 1000 for $1,664.55, from Canada Ammo. That's still $1.66 per round. I really don't want to handload 1,000 rounds with my single stage press. Any Dealers offer a better price for a 1,000 lot case ??

Shooting 1K of 44MAG takes some time. You must have more money than most to throw it away paying double or more than reloading. Maybe you are a doctor or lawyer and your time is worth $100s/hr I guess.

I bought a new revolver on a whim too but I got one in 45 colt
My buddy told me I should have got a 44 mag as the ammo is cheaper and easier to find. Over a buck a round does seem expensive,
I haven't bought any 45 colt ammo yet I hope I'm not in for a shock when I do!

I shoot a lot of 44. I mean a lot. The most I ever paid is 1.20 a shot for American Eagle (in my opinion the best) but I buy bulk. Just shop around.

Not trying to sound like a #### but I just searched 44 mag a Canada and this was the second one down http://www.theammosource.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1_108_150

For my lever guns i want premium (non 94 models as in Henry and marlins) but for my 6 shooter I use cheap stuff.

Usually they are pretty up to date on their stock. Says 20 left of S&B and 8 of american eagle. But I will be honest and say there probably 15 stores in the lower mainland and 100 across Canada that has decent prices on 44 mag. Just have to shop around. It's by far my favorite round and own more 44 mags then any other caliber. There are also 3 reloading places here in bc. Google "44 mag canada" and you will find deals.

Last time they had it in stock, Canada Ammo was selling PMC Bronze 44 Mag ammo for $22 / 25 rounds, or $420 for a case of 500. It's a good deal for newly manufactured ammo, and I've found that it shoots quite well and is pretty potent.

They're all sold out, though, and the prices will likely be higher when the next shipment comes in.

Perhaps that's the best way to do it. Thinking it through beforehand could put you off and you'd never know what you were missing.

Reliable Gun in Vancouver currently shows Federal AE for $50.39/50 or $899.99/1000. Equivalent reloads run me about 35 cents per round. The savings from reloading this one calibre add up very fast.

Even if you do not shoot a whole lot if you want to play around with .44Mag and if you reload rifle much for larger calibers it just makes a lot of sense to get even a modest reloading setup going of your own. Even buying fancy jacketed or hollow point bullets and using magnum primers and full loads of H110 I can still reload for around 50 cents per round. And if I go with the more budget priced bullets I can reload a full power .44Mag for around 30 cents per round.

This same cost per round savings shows up for a LOT of the rifle calibers as well.

You can likely get set up with a lower cost range of equipment for around $300 all in. And it can be as compact as breaking down and going into a medium size storage tote in your closet. I'll leave it to you to figure out the cost savings and how long it will take for the difference to pay back the cost of the reloading setup. But even at the difference of 50 cents per reload to a buck a shot for factory it would only be 600 rounds before you're reloading for cheap and the equipment is paid off. And it sounds like factory .44Mag is generally well over a buck a pop. So that would cut the numbers down even more.

Time? Time is factor for many these days. Even with hand priming and a single stage I'd say you can reload around 100 per hour without breaking a sweat. Maybe 120 as you streamline the process and perhaps shift to on the press priming.

And as mentioned a few posts up it greatly expands your options. You can load up a wide variety of power levels in .44Mag from a .22 like kick right up to full on "flaming wrist wreckers" and anything between.

In fact unless you pull down annual salary of 6 figures I'd say that reloading is almost a necessity for anyone that owns a .44Mag. And even those rich folks are missing out on being able to tune the loads to suit just what they want out of the gun.
